YouTube Studio

October 2021

  • Creator Demographics setting in YouTube Studio: The Creator & Artists Survey was opened for U.S.-based creators and artists in March 2021. The survey’s goal is to ensure that YouTube is an inclusive and safe place for everyone. Now, the survey can be found in the Settings section of Studio on a computer under “Creator Demographics.” The setting is currently available for U.S.-based channel owners only. Learn more about this setting and how to delete your response.
  • Automatic video chapters: We recently introduced the ability to use automatic video chapters for your videos. Video chapters allow viewers to jump forward to a specific section of a video. You can now allow or opt-out of automatic chapters in bulk on existing videos in YouTube Studio. Learn more.

  • Faster uploads in YouTube Studio: You can now add video elements like cards, end screens, and captions before your video is done processing in YouTube Studio. Learn more.

Monetization
October 2021
  • Member Recognition Shelf: As part of an experiment, members’ avatars will be displayed on a new shelf on the Home tab of the Channel page (mobile only), thanking them for their membership and publicly recognizing them to other viewers. Members’ avatars will be regularly rotated to ensure more members get recognition. During the experiment, not all viewers might see the shelf. Creators in this experiment can toggle the feature off via the Memberships tab in Studio if they wish.

  • Monetizing creators should enable 2-Step Verification: Starting November 1, all monetizing creators will have to have 2-Step Verification enabled to access YouTube Studio or the YouTube Studio Content Manager. Monetizing creators will not be able to access those tools without having 2-Step Verification enabled by then. Learn more.
  • Memberships Management tab experiment: We’re testing out a new Memberships tab in Studio found under the Monetization tab. The new version includes all of the same information as before, with some extra data and tools to help manage performance. For example, channels in this experiment can see the number of members per level over time, as well as new signups or cancellations in the last billing period.
Policy and copyright
October 2021
  • Prevent reuploads of removed videos: If you submit a copyright takedown request through the webform, you can now choose to prevent reuploads of videos. Selecting this option means YouTube will make its best efforts to automatically prevent videos that are taken down from being uploaded to YouTube again. You can also view potential copies of these videos and decide what action to take with them. Learn more.

October 2021

  • Expanding Community posts to more channels: We’re rolling out Community posts to all channels with over 500 subscribers. For channels that just reached 500 subscribers, it will take up to 1 week to get access to Community posts. We’re working to bring Community posts to even more channels in the future.

September 2021

  • Discussion tab removal: On October 12, 2021, the Discussion tab will be removed as we continue to expand the availability of Community posts, which replace the Discussion tab.

Other updates

September 2021

  • New daily limits for custom thumbnails: To reduce abuse, we’re limiting the number of custom thumbnails a channel can upload within a 24-hour period. Channels that try to upload more custom thumbnails than the daily custom thumbnail limit will run into an error message. This update will minimize the number of thumbnails needing review and help make YouTube safer for everyone.
