Understand Google Workspace bills & charges

If you purchased your service from a reseller, go here instead |  Do I have a reseller?

Review this article for general information about how you’re charged for a subscription to Google Workspace. For specific details about the items on your invoice, go to Understand your Google Workspace invoice.

When Google Workspace billing starts

When you sign up for Google Workspace, you get a 14-day free trial. After your paid subscription starts, we automatically charge your primary payment method at the beginning of the next month. If your paid service starts in May, for example, we charge you at the beginning of June. After that, the billing cycle continues automatically at the beginning of each month.

If you pay annually for the Annual/Fixed-Term Plan, we automatically charge you at the end of the first month for your full commitment term.

How your monthly payment is calculated

If you have a monthly billed plan, your total monthly charge for a Google Workspace subscription depends on 3 factors:

1. Your Google Workspace edition

The following table shows pricing for Business editions. For Enterprise editions, contact your reseller or Google Sales.

Standard prices are shown.

  Flexible Plan Annual/Fixed-Term Plan
Monthly payment Business Starter: $7.20 USD per user
Business Standard: $14.40 USD per user
Business Plus: $21.60 USD per user
Business Starter: $6 USD per user
Business Standard: $12 USD per user
Business Plus: $18 USD per user

2. Your billing plan

  • The Flexible Plan charges for the number of users you have in a given month.
  • The Annual/Fixed-Term Plan charges you for the exact number of licenses you signed up for through a yearly commitment. If your Annual/Fixed-Term Plan is billed monthly, you’re charged each month for one month's portion of your annual charge. If you pay annually, you’re charged for the full year at the end of the first month of your commitment term.

3. Your number of users or licenses

  • With the Flexible Plan, you pay for as many users as you have each month. You can add and remove users at any time. Suspended users are charged at the same rate as active users.
If you add or remove users during any month, we prorate your payments. If you add a user on April 1 and delete them on April 15, we charge you for only half a month of service.
  • With the Annual/Fixed-Term Plan with monthly payments, you pay each month for a month's portion of the licenses you signed up for. You can add more licenses to your commitment at any time, and your monthly payment goes up. You can only reduce the number of licenses (and reduce your monthly payment) when it’s time to renew your plan. The Annual/Fixed-Term Plan offers the lowest per-user, per-month price compared to the Flexible Plan.
  • With the Annual/Fixed-Term Plan with yearly payments, you pay yearly for all licenses you signed up for at the end of the first month of your commitment term. You can add more licenses to your commitment at any time. You're charged at the end of the month for the prorated yearly price of the additional licenses. You can reduce the number of licenses when it’s time to renew your plan.

Prorated payments

For monthly billed plans, each month, you're charged for the number of users your organization had per day during the previous month. Charges are prorated per day over the billing period. Google uses Pacific Time (PT) to calculate the billing period for all customers, regardless of their time zone.

A prorated payment for a partial month can happen, for example, after your free trial ends. You might also have prorated charges if during the billing cycle, you:

  • Add or remove users (details earlier on this page).
  • Add a new subscription, such as Google Workspace Additional Storage or Google Vault.
  • Switch your subscription.
  • Cancel your subscription.
  • Have an increase in the your subscription price. (You'll be notified at least 30 days in advance if your price increases.) If your subscription price is adjusted in the middle of the month, the monthly cost of your subscription will be prorated.

For example, if you’re on the Flexible Plan and add or remove users during any month, we prorate the corresponding charges for your payments. For example, if you add a user on April 1 and delete them on April 15, we charge you for only 15 days of service.

Where can I find my Google Workspace invoice?

At the beginning of each month, we send you an email with a PDF of your invoice for your previous month’s activity. This invoice is for information only. You're automatically charged for the amount shown on the invoice. If you pay annually on the Annual/Fixed-Term Plan, you’re charged upfront for the whole year. We send you an email with a PDF of your invoice at the end of the first month of your subscription term.

What your charge looks like

In your monthly credit card or bank statement, charges for a Google Workspace subscription appear as GOOGLE WORKSPACE {first_7_letters_of_domain_name}.

Charges for other subscriptions you purchase, such as Google Workspace Additional Storage, appear as separate transactions. For more details, go to Charges for other subscriptions later on this page.

If you have a GOOGLE *TEMPORARY HOLD charge on your bank account, it's for a pending transaction. For details, go to Pending transactions.

Why was I charged after cancellation?

After you cancel your subscription, you’re billed at the start of the next month for any outstanding charges in your account. The amount is calculated according to your service and billing plan:

  • Flexible Plan—You’re charged for the days you used the service. For example, if you cancel on the 15th of this month, you're billed for half a month of service.
  • Annual/Fixed-Term Plan—You’re charged for the remaining balance of your commitment, if you have one.
  • Essentials (paid edition)—You’re charged the full monthly cost for each active user in that month. Learn more about How Essentials billing works.

When a charge attempt fails

If our first attempt to automatically charge your primary payment method fails, we try again in 24 hours. If you make a manual payment between the first and second attempt and the second attempt succeeds, you’ll be charged twice. If you get an alert that an automatic payment attempt failed, we recommend waiting 24 hours before trying to fix it.

If you don’t make a manual payment and the second automatic attempt fails, your services might be suspended. Learn how to fix payment and billing issues.
