YouTube Studio beta

  • Save edited videos as new videos: You can now save an edited version of your video as a new video in the YouTube Studio beta editor.
  • Revert to your original video: If you accidentally trim your video too much, or want to start again, you can go back to the file that you originally uploaded.

Community and comments

  • Potentially inappropriate comments will be automatically held for your review: Over the coming months, potentially inappropriate comments will be held for you to review on new uploads by default. You can change your comment settings any time in YouTube Studio beta. Learn more.

August 2019

  • New upload experience in YouTube Studio beta. You can now try out the new upload experience from YouTube Studio beta. Select Upload  and then Upload video (beta).
  • Default creator experience setting removed: The default creator experience setting has been removed. All creators will now see YouTube Studio beta as their default experience.

June 2019

  • Faster navigation in YouTube Studio beta analytics: When hovering over a video title after you've expanded a report, you'll now see its title, thumbnail and fast links to the video's analytics and watch page.
  • Bar charts in YouTube Studio beta analytics: After you click to expand a report, you can now switch between a line chart and a bar chart. 
  • Relative audience retention: You can now see relative audience retention in YouTube Studio beta analytics. Learn more.
  • Paid audience retention in YouTube Studio beta: If your video also serves as an ad, you can now see a breakdown of organic vs. paid audience retention in YouTube Studio beta analytics. Learn more.
  • More data in YouTube Studio beta: We've added filters for YouTube product (YouTube, YouTube Kids, YouTube Gaming) and translation use (Original, Translated language) to analytics in YouTube Studio beta. We've also added new dimensions for ad type and transaction type. Expand a report to see these new options.

May 2019

  • Subscriber list in YouTube Studio beta: You can now see a list of channels that have subscribed to your channel in the past 28 days, ordered by most popular, on your Dashboard in YouTube Studio beta. The list only shows subscribers who have chosen to make their subscriptions public. Learn more.

  • Branding watermark in YouTube Studio beta: You can now add a custom branding watermark and manage its settings in YouTube Studio beta. Learn more.

  • Video editor available in RTL languages: The editor in YouTube Studio beta is now available to creators that have their YouTube interface set to a right-to-left language. Learn how to change your language on YouTube.

March 2019

  • Copy/paste tags in YouTube Studio beta: You can now copy and paste tags between videos that you've uploaded in YouTube Studio beta. 
  • Preview your video while editing metadata: You can now see a preview of your video while updating its settings and metadata on the Details page in YouTube Studio beta. 
  • Video filename in YouTube Studio beta: You can now see the original filename of your video on the Details page in YouTube Studio beta. It will appear beneath a preview of your video on the right-hand side of the page.
  • Upload defaults in YouTube Studio beta: You can now choose your default settings for video uploads in YouTube Studio beta. Find them in under Settings in the left menu.

  • Strikes now appear on the dashboard: In YouTube Studio beta, you'll see a card on the dashboard if you have a Community Guidelines or copyright strike.

  • Merchandise shelf: Eligible creators can now customise the merch shelf for individual videos. Learn more.

  • Child safety policy update: We're expanding our child safety policies to better protect the family experience on YouTube. Content that targets younger minors and families, but contains sexual themes, violence, obscene or other mature themes not suitable for young audiences, is not allowed on YouTube.   • Hate speech policies: We've expanded our hate speech policies and added more examples of what's not allowed on YouTube. You can see the new areas here. Learn more about why we've made these changes here.

  • Community Guidelines strikes: We have introduced a new way in which we give Community Guidelines strikes, with more opportunities for everyone to understand our policies, a consistent penalty for each strike and better notifications. We know that most people don't mean to break the rules, so we're giving you a chance to understand what went wrong before you face more severe consequences. You can learn more here.

YouTube Analytics

September 2019

  • Real-time impressions and CTR: Impressions and CTR are now available up to the minute (three hours after publishing) in YouTube Studio beta. You'll see this on the key metrics card of the Reach tab. Remember that CTR is only one measure of success on YouTube. 

April 2019

  • See daily, weekly, monthly or yearly analytics: After you click See more to expand an analytics report in YouTube Studio beta, you can now update the chart to show individual data points for each day in the selected date range, or total data by week, month or year.
  • Deeper geography and playback locations data: Geography data for individual US states is now available in YouTube Studio beta. You can also see more detailed information for your playback locations, such as individual channel pages where your video was played.
  • Geography data in real-time report: We have removed all geography data from the real-time report. Learn more about limited data in YouTube Analytics.
  • See more on the real-time activity card: You can now click SEE MORE to expand the real-time activity card. The real-time activity card appears on the Overview tab of YouTube Analytics in YouTube Studio beta. Once expanded, you'll see real-time views from the last 60 minutes and the last 48 hours.

  • Compare performance in YouTube Studio beta: You can now compare any of your videos, groups or entire channel to another with a customised time frame and/or filters. You'll see the option to Add comparison when you click to expand an analytics card.

Live streaming

March 2019
  • Live Control Room: The new Live Control Room combines our live streaming tools into a single destination, designed for live creators. To access the Live Control Room from anywhere on YouTube, just click the creation icon and select 'Go Live'.

Community and comments

September 2019
  • Search filters for comments: Search filters for comments: You can now quickly find and respond to comments by using search filters in YouTube Studio. Find questions, comments that haven't been responded to and more.
Likes on Stories: Viewers can now like your Stories. You can see the number of likes at the bottom of your story.
  • Community contributions must be manually approved: Due to spam and abusive language in some community contributions, contributions will now be held for your review and approval before they can appear on your video.
July 2019
  • Community Guidelines reminders in comments: Viewers will now see reminders to follow Community Guidelines while reading and writing comments. This is to help increase awareness of our policies.
  • Changing aspect ratio for previews of images in Community Posts: To provide the best experience for viewers, we will now display image posts first as a 1:1 preview on mobile.
March 2019
  • Mention other creators in Stories:  You can now mention other creators in your Stories with mention stickers. Learn more about Stories.
  • Quicker access to Stories for creators: Creators with access to Stories can now create new Stories and see Stories from their own channel and other channels at the top of Home on mobile. These creators will not see the thumbnail preview behind the channel icon, as viewers do, but will in the future.
  • New Stories experience: We are improving the Stories experience across the mobile app to include a thumbnail preview of the Story. This gives viewers insight into the Story's content. You'll see this on Home, the watch page and the subscriptions feed.
  • New Stories section in subscriptions feed: We are rolling out a new, dedicated section for Stories in the subscriptions feed for all viewers. The rest of the subscriptions feed remains unchanged.

  • [Experiment] Explore tab on Android: In July, we began testing a new Explore tab on some iPhones. We've received positive feedback, and are expanding this experiment to some Android users.

  • Content ID: We've improved our Content ID audio-matching technology to better identify re-uploads of your audio content. Learn more.

  • Channel verification: On 19 September 19th, we announced changes to channel verification. We heard creator feedback and have announced new updates to the programme. Learn more
May 2019
  • New Subscriptions tab experience on iOS: When viewers who are subscribed to your channel click on your channel icon in their Subscriptions tab, they will now see your most recent videos directly on the Subscriptions page. Previously, they were sent to the Videos page of your channel. Learn more.
  • Removing related channels from the channel page: We’ve removed the “Related channels” section on the channel page. Previously, creators were able to opt out of this feature if they didn’t want related channels to show on their page, and didn’t want to be included in the “Related channels” section on other channel pages. Learn more.
  • The YouTube Gaming app will go away on May 30: You’ll be able to find all of your favourite gaming videos in the YouTube main app at www.youtube.com/gaming. Learn more about Gaming on YouTube here. All subscriptions are now shared between YouTube and the YouTube Gaming app.

  • Donation cards are going away: As of 2 April 2019, donation cards will be going away, but we've rolled out a new fundraising solution to creators who previously raised more than $5000 via donation cards. We'll continue to expand access in the coming months, so keep an eye out on our Creator Blog for more details!
  • Removing call-to-action overlays from Creator Studio: We've removed the option to add or edit call-to-action overlays to organic videos in Creator Studio, and existing CTAs will be removed. Learn more
  • Donation cards are going away: As of 2 April 2019, donation cards will be going away, but we've rolled out a new fundraising solution to creators who previously raised more than $5000 via donation cards.
