How do I navigate my Fitbit device?

Ace and Alta series

The screen on Fitbit Ace, Fitbit Alta, and Fitbit Alta HR is dimmed when not in use. It wakes up automatically when you turn your wrist towards you (known as Quick View), or you can double-tap your tracker where the display meets the band as shown below.

To advance between screens and check your stats, give your device a tap. Note that Ace, Alta, and Alta HR don't respond to swipes.

Ace 2, Inspire, and Inspire HR

Your tracker has an OLED touchscreen display. Navigate your device by tapping the screen, swiping up and down, or pressing the button:

Use the clock and apps

The home screen is the clock. On the clock:

  • Swipe down to scroll through the apps on your tracker. To open an app, tap it.
  • Swipe up to check your daily stats.

Use the button

Your device has 1 button.

Quick settings

Press and hold the button to access certain settings. Tap a setting to change it. When you turn off a setting, the icon appears dim with a line through it.

Check battery level

Check your battery level at any time: press and hold the button. The battery level is at the top.

Adjust settings

Manage basic settings directly on your device. Open the Settings app and tap a setting to adjust it. Swipe to check the full list of settings.

Ace 3

Ace 3 has a PMOLED touchscreen display and 2 buttons. Navigate Ace 3 by tapping the screen, swiping up and down, or pressing the buttons:

To check your battery level, swipe up from the clock face.

Press and hold the buttons to access certain settings. Tap a setting to turn it on or off. When you turn off the setting, the icon appears dim with a line through it.

Water Lock 

Turn on the water lock setting when you're in water, for example showering or swimming, to prevent the buttons on your tracker from activating. When water lock is on, your screen and buttons are locked. Notifications and alarms still appear on your tracker, but you must unlock your screen to interact with them.

To turn on water lock, press and hold the buttons on your tracker  tap Water Lock firmly tap your screen twice. To turn off water lock, firmly double-tap the middle of the screen with your finger. If "Unlocked" doesn't show on screen, try tapping harder. Turning off this feature uses the accelerometer in your device, which takes more force to activate.

DND (Do not disturb) 

When the do not disturb setting is on:

  • Notifications, goal celebrations, and reminders are muted.
  • The do not disturb icon  illuminates in quick settings.

You can't turn on do not disturb and sleep mode at the same time.

Sleep 

When the sleep mode setting is on:

  • Notifications and reminders are muted.
  • The screen's brightness is set to dim.
  • The screen stays dark when you turn your wrist.

Sleep mode turns off automatically when you set a schedule. To set a schedule:

  1. Open the Settings app  and tap Sleep Mode.
  2. Tap Schedule to turn it on.
  3. Tap Sleep Interval and set your sleep mode schedule. Sleep mode automatically turns off at the time you schedule, even if you manually turned it on.

You can't turn on do not disturb and sleep mode at the same time.

Screen Wake  When the screen wake setting is on, turn your wrist toward you to turn on the screen.

Settings app

From the clock screen, swipe down and open the Settings app . Tap a setting to adjust it. Swipe up to check the full list of settings.

Dim Screen Turn on the dim screen setting to lower your screen's brightness.
Sleep Mode Adjust sleep mode settings, including setting a schedule for the mode to automatically turn on and off.
Double Tap Turn on or off the ability to wake your tracker with a firm double tap. Note that your screen must be off for at least 10 seconds for this setting to take effect.
Device Info View your device's regulatory information and activation date, which is the day your device's warranty begins. The activation date is the day you set up your device.

Turn off the screen

To turn off the screen when not in use, briefly cover the clock face with your opposite hand, press the buttons, or turn your wrist away from your body.

Blaze

Use the clock and menus

The starting screen is the clock. On the clock:

  • Swipe up to check any notifications.
  • Swipe down to use shortcuts for controlling music or turning notifications on and off.
  • Swipe left and right to check menus.
  • (Some clock faces) Tap to check your all-day stats.

Use the buttons

Blaze has three buttons: Action, Select, and Back.

Use the Back button to return to the previous screen. The behavior of the Action and Select buttons depends on the screen, but usually these buttons are an alternative to tapping. For example, during an exercise you can tap the pause icon in the lower right or tap the Select button next to it instead.

Charge 2

Use the clock and menus

The default or "home" screen is a clock. On the clock you can:

  • Tap to check your steps taken, heart rate, distance, calories burned, floors climbed, and active minutes.
  • Press the button to move to specialized menus.

Press the button to open a specialized menu:

  • Heart rate— Shows your current heart rate. Tap to check your resting heart rate.
  • Exercise—Tap to move through your exercise choices, then press and hold the button to start the selected exercise. Press and hold the button again to end the exercise. For more information, check How do I track my workouts with my Fitbit device?
  • Alarms—Tap to scroll through any alarms you’ve set. Press and hold the button to disable or enable any alarms. For more information, check How do I manage alarms on my Fitbit device?
  • Stopwatch—Press and hold the button to start the stopwatch. Press the button to stop and resume the stopwatch. Press and hold the button again to reset the stopwatch.
  • Relax—Tap to choose a guided breathing session. Press and hold the button to start the session.

Use the clock and apps

The home screen is a clock:

Use the button

Your device has an OLED touch screen and one button.

Press and hold the button on your tracker for a faster way to use Fitbit Pay (on Fitbit Pay-enabled devices), and access certain settings.

Quick settings

Press and hold the button, and swipe left to access the quick settings screen. Tap a setting to turn it on or off. When you turn off the setting, the icon appears dim with a line through it.

DND (Do not disturb) 

When the do not disturb setting is on, notifications, goal celebrations, heart zone alerts, and reminders to move don't cause the tracker to vibrate or the screen to turn on.

You can't turn on do not disturb and sleep mode at the same time.

Sleep Mode 

When the sleep mode setting is on:

  • Notifications don't cause the tracker to vibrate or the screen to turn on.
  • The screen's brightness is set to dim.
  • Turning your wrist won't cause the tracker’s screen to turn on.

Sleep mode doesn't automatically turn off unless you set a sleep mode schedule. To schedule sleep mode to automatically turn on during certain hours:

  1. Open the Settings app  and tap Sleep Mode.
  2. Tap Schedule to turn it on.
  3. Tap Sleep Interval and set your sleep mode schedule. Sleep mode automatically turns off at the time you schedule, even if you manually turned it on.

You can't turn on do not disturb and sleep mode at the same time.

Screen Wake  When the screen wake setting is on, turn your wrist toward you to turn on the screen.

Brightness Change the screen's brightness.
Vibrations Adjust your tracker's vibration strength.
Heart Rate Turn heart-rate tracking on or off.
Do Not Disturb Turn off all notifications. Choose to receive alerts about your workout in the Exercise app even if Do Not Disturb is on.
Sleep Mode Adjust sleep mode settings, including setting a schedule for the mode to automatically turn on and off.
Screen Time Out Choose how long your screen stays on before it turns off.

Turn off the screen

Use the button

Sleep Mode Adjust sleep mode settings, including setting a schedule for the mode to automatically turn on and off.

GPS Settings Choose the GPS type and manage other settings to enhance GPS performance. For more information, check How do I use GPS on my Fitbit device?
Device Info

Charge 5 and Luxe

Charge 5 and Luxe have a color AMOLED touchscreen display. Navigate your tracker by tapping the screen and swiping side to side and up and down.

Access settings

Swipe down from the top of the screen to access quick settings, the Settings app, the Payments app (Charge 5 only), and the Find Phone app. While in quick settings, swipe right to return to the clock screen.

Open apps

Swipe left and right to check the apps on your tracker. Swipe up or tap the app to open it.

See your stats

Swipe up to check your daily stats. To return to the clock screen, swipe right.

Go back

Swipe right to go back to a previous screen. Firmly double-tap to return to the clock screen.

When you set screen wake to Auto , the screen turns on each time you turn your wrist.

When you set screen wake to Manual , firmly tap the screen twice to turn it on.

Turn on the water lock setting when you're in water, for example showering or swimming, to prevent your screen from activating. Button lock Prevent the button on your tracker from activating while your screen is off. To turn on Button Lock, tap the setting  Turn on.
Vibrations Adjust your tracker's vibration strength.

Magnify settings Turn on Magnify to zoom in when you triple-tap the screen. Choose between 2x and 3x magnification. To zoom out again, tap the screen once.
Device info

Tap Device Info System Info to see the activation date.

On Wrist  / On Clip  setting

When Inspire 2 is on your wrist, make sure your tracker is set to On Wrist . When Inspire 2 is in the accessory clip, make sure it's set to On Clip. To switch between On Wrist  and On Clip  mode, tap the setting  tap  to confirm.

Note that when Inspire 2 is set to On Clip , certain features are turned off, including heart-rate tracking, automatic exercise tracking, and Active Zone Minutes.

Settings app

Dim Screen Turn on the dim screen setting to lower your screen's brightness.
Phone GPS Turn connected GPS on or off. For more information, see How do I use GPS on my Fitbit device?
Heart Rate Turn heart rate tracking on or off. Note that this setting is only available when Inspire 2 is set to On Wrist .
Do Not Disturb Turn off all notifications or choose to automatically turn on do not disturb while using the Exercise app .
Sleep Mode Adjust sleep mode settings, including setting a schedule for the mode to automatically turn on and off.
Heart Zone Notifications Turn heart zone notifications on or off. For more information, see What are Active Zone Minutes or active minutes on my Fitbit device?
Double Tap Turn on or off the ability to wake your tracker with a firm double tap. Note that your screen must be off for at least 10 seconds for this setting to take effect.
Button Lock

Turn on Button Lock to prevent the buttons on your tracker from activating while your screen is off. To turn Button Lock on or off, tap the setting  tap  to confirm.

Turn off the screen

To turn off the screen when not in use, briefly cover the clock face with your opposite hand, press the buttons, or turn your wrist away from your body.

Inspire 3

Inspire 3 has a color AMOLED touchscreen display and 2 buttons. Navigate your tracker by tapping the screen, pressing the buttons, and swiping side to side and up and down.

Use the clock and apps

Wake your device

Press the buttons, firmly tap the screen twice, or turn your wrist to wake your tracker.

Access settings

Swipe down from the top of the screen to access quick settings, the Settings app, and the Find Phone app. While in quick settings, swipe right or press the buttons to return to the clock screen.

Open apps

Swipe left and right to see the apps on your tracker. Swipe up or tap the app to open it.

See your stats

Swipe up to see your daily stats.

Go back

Swipe right to go back to a previous screen. Press the buttons to return to the clock screen.

Adjust settings

Manage basic settings on your tracker.

Quick settings

For a faster way to access certain settings, swipe down from the clock screen. Tap a setting to adjust it. When you turn off a setting, the icon appears dim with a line through it.

Auto wake  When the Auto wake  setting is on, the screen turns on each time you turn your wrist.

DND mode 

When the do not disturb setting is on:

  • Notifications, goal celebrations, and reminders are muted.
  • The do not disturb icon illuminates  in quick settings.

You can't turn on the do not disturb setting and sleep mode at the same time.

Sleep mode 

When sleep mode is on:

  • Notifications, goal celebrations, and reminders are muted.
  • The screen's brightness is set to dim.
  • The screen stays dark when you turn your wrist. To wake your tracker, firmly tap the screen twice.
  • The sleep mode icon illuminates  in quick settings.

Sleep mode turns off automatically when you set a sleep schedule. For more information, see Settings app.

You can't turn on the do not disturb setting and sleep mode at the same time.

WORN on Wrist  / CLIPPED on Body 

When Inspire 3 is on your wrist, make sure the device is set to WORN on Wrist . When Inspire 3 is in the clip, make sure the device is set to CLIPPED on Body . To switch between wrist and clip modes, tap the setting  tap YES to confirm.

Note that when Inspire 3 is set to CLIPPED on Body, certain features are turned off, including heart-rate tracking, automatic exercise tracking, and Active Zone Minutes.
Water lock 

Turn on the water lock setting when you're in water, for example showering or swimming, to prevent the screen and buttons on your tracker from activating. When water lock is on, your screen and buttons lock, and the water lock icon appears at the bottom. Notifications and alarms still appear on your tracker, but you must unlock your screen to interact with them.

To turn on water lock, swipe down from the clock screen  tap Water Lock  firmly tap your screen twice. To turn off water lock, firmly double-tap the middle of the screen with your finger. If you don't see "Unlocked" appear on screen, try tapping harder. Turning off this feature uses the accelerometer in your device, which takes more force to activate.

Note that water lock turns on automatically when you start a swim in the Exercise app.

Display

Quiet modes

Exercise Focus Turn off notifications while using the Exercise app .
Do Not Disturb Turn off all notifications.
Sleep Mode

Adjust sleep mode settings, including setting a schedule for the mode to automatically turn on and off.

To set a schedule:

  1. Open the Settings app  and tap Quiet Modes  Sleep Mode  Schedule  Interval.
  2. Tap the start or end time to adjust when the mode turns on and off. Swipe up or down to change the time, and tap the time to select it. Sleep mode automatically turns off at the time you schedule, even if you manually turned it on.

Other settings

Heart Rate Turn heart-rate tracking on or off.
AZM notifications

Turn the heart-zone notifications that you receive during everyday activity on or off. For more information, see What are Active Zone Minutes or active minutes on my Fitbit device?

Button lock

Turn on Button Lock to prevent the buttons on your tracker from activating while your screen is off. To turn on Button Lock, tap the setting  Turn On.

Vibrations Adjust your tracker's vibration strength.
Device info

Use the button shortcuts

Left button

Press and hold the left button for 2 seconds to quickly access a feature such as Fitbit Pay, Alexa, music controls, notifications, or certain apps. To change which feature activates when you hold the button, open the Settings app  and tap the Left Button option. The possible shortcuts vary based on your device.

Top and bottom buttons (Versa only)

From the clock screen, press the top and bottom buttons on the right side of the watch to quickly access your favorite apps.

  • Top button—opens the app located of the first app screen.
  • Bottom button—opens the app located of the first app screen.

Use the control center

Swipe down from the top of your screen. After your notifications appear, swipe down again to open the control center. The shortcuts you see vary based on your device.

Music controls  Control music playing on your phone or watch.
Fitbit Pay  Make contactless payments from your watch. For more information, see What should I know about using my Fitbit device to make contactless payments?
Quick settings  Adjust certain settings such as screen brightness and screen wake. For more information, see Quick settings

Check battery level

To check your battery level, swipe down from the top of the screen. You see the battery level icon.

Adjust notification and display settings. Swipe down from the top of your screen. After your notifications appear, swipe down again to open the control center. Tap the quick settings icon .

Do Not Disturb 

When you turn on the do not disturb setting:

  • Notifications, goal celebrations, and reminders to move don't cause the watch to vibrate or the screen to turn on.
  • You see a do not disturb  icon at the top of the screen when you swipe down to see your notifications.

You can't turn on do not disturb and sleep mode at the same time.

Sleep Mode 

When you turn on the sleep mode setting:

  • Notifications don't cause the watch to vibrate or the screen to turn on.
  • The screen's brightness is set to dim.
  • The Always-On Display clock face is turned off (on watches that support it).
  • Turning your wrist won't cause the watch's screen to turn on.
  • You see a sleep mode icon  at the top of the screen when you swipe down to see your notifications.

To schedule sleep mode to automatically turn on during certain hours, open the Settings app  and tap Sleep Mode  Schedule. Sleep Mode automatically turns off at the time you schedule, even if you manually turned it on.

You can't turn on do not disturb and sleep mode at the same time.

Screen Wake 
  • When you set Screen Wake to Auto (Motion), the screen turns on each time you turn your wrist.
  • When you set Screen Wake to Manual (Button), press the button to turn on the screen.

You can't set Screen Wake to Auto (Motion) if you turn on always-on display or sleep mode.

Brightness  Adjust the screen brightness.
Always-On Display  (Versa 2 only)

Keep the screen on, even when you’re not interacting with the watch. For more information, see How do I see the time on my Fitbit device?

Note that turning on this feature impacts your watch's battery. When always-on display is turned on, Versa 2 has a battery life of up to 3 days.

Brightness Change the screen's brightness.
Screen Timeout Choose how long the screen stays on after you stop interacting with your watch.
Always-On Display (Versa 2 only)

Adjust always-on display settings, including the information you see on the clock face.

Note that turning on this feature impacts your watch's battery. When always-on display is turned on, Versa 2 has a battery life of up to 3 days.

Sleep Mode Adjust sleep mode settings, including setting a schedule for the mode to automatically turn on and off.
Do Not Disturb Adjust do not disturb settings, including whether the mode should turn on automatically when you use the Exercise app.
Screen Wake Change whether the screen turns on when you turn your wrist.
Vibrations Adjust your watch's vibration strength.
Microphone (Versa 2 only) Choose whether your watch can access the microphone.
Left Button Choose the feature the button activates.
Alexa (Versa 2 only) Turn Alexa notifications on or off.
Bluetooth (not available on Versa Lite Edition) Manage connected Bluetooth devices.
Heart Rate Turn heart-rate tracking on or off.

Use button shortcuts

How do I use the button on my Fitbit Sense or Fitbit Versa 3?

To use the button on your watch, press the entire button sensor, where you see the indentation. You’ll feel your watch vibrate. You may have to experiment to find the best position.

You might unintentionally press the button on your watch when you bend your wrist. This may happen during activities such as a workout that require you to move your wrist a lot. Press and hold the button

Press and hold the left button for 2 seconds to quickly access a feature such as Fitbit Pay, Alexa, Google Assistant, music controls, notifications, or certain apps. To change which feature activates when you hold the button, open the Settings app  on your watch and tap Shortcuts. In the Press & hold section, tap Press & hold. Choose your shortcut, and then swipe right to return to the previous screen.

Double-press the button

Double-press the button to open shortcuts to 4 apps or features. To start, the 4 shortcuts are music controls , quick settings , your voice assistant, and Fitbit Pay . To change these shortcuts, open the Settings app  on your watch and tap Shortcuts. In the Double Press section, tap the shortcut you want to change. Swipe right to return to the previous screen.

Check battery level

From the clock face, swipe right. The battery level icon is at the top of the screen.

Understand status indicators

When you turn on your device’s screen, you might see icons at the top of the clock face:

Your Fitbit device’s sleep mode setting is turned on. For more information, see Quick settings.
Your Fitbit device’s battery is critically low. For more information, see How do I charge my Fitbit device?

The icons disappear after 3 seconds. To see them again, swipe right to see the icons at the top of quick settings.

To turn status indicators on or off:

  1. On your Fitbit device, open the Settings app   Display.
  2. Tap the switch next to Status indicators.

Check widgets

Add widgets to your watch to see your daily stats, log your water intake or weight, check the weather forecast, and access certain apps. To see your widgets, swipe up from the clock face.

To add a new widget:

  1. From the clock face, swipe up to the bottom of the widgets, and tap Manage.
  2. Under More Widgets, tap the  icon next to the widget you want to add.
  3. Swipe up to the bottom of the page, and tap Done.

To turn off a widget:

  1. From the clock face, swipe up to the bottom of the widgets, and tap Manage.
  2. Tap the widget you want to adjust.
  3. Tap the switch  next to Show Widget to turn it off.
  4. Swipe up to the bottom of the page, and tap Done.

To adjust the information you see on a widget:

  1. From the clock face, swipe up to the bottom of the widgets, and tap Manage.
  2. Tap the  icon next to the widget you want to adjust.
  3. Adjust any settings you want to change.
  4. Swipe up to the bottom of the page, and tap Done.

To change the order of widgets:

  1. From the clock face, swipe up to the bottom of the widgets, and tap Manage.
  2. Press and hold the widget you want to move, and drag it up or down in the list of widgets. When it's in the correct new location, lift your finger.
  3. Swipe up to the bottom of the page, and tap Done.

Open the Fitbit app

Some features on your watch prompt you to open the Fitbit app. If you tap this prompt, the Fitbit app sends a notification to your phone. To make sure your phone receives these notifications, turn on notifications for the Fitbit app in your phone's settings. Sense 2 and Versa 4

Navigate your watch by tapping the screen, swiping side-to-side and up and down, or pressing the button.

Basic navigation

The home screen is the clock:

  • Swipe down to check quick settings.
  • Swipe up to check your notifications.
  • Swipe left or right to check your tiles.
  • Press the button to open the apps menu or return to the clock face.
  • Press and hold your finger on the clock face to switch between saved clock faces.

Press and hold the button

Press and hold the left button for 1 second to quickly access a feature such as contactless payments, Alexa, notifications, or certain apps. To change which feature activates when you hold the button, open the Settings app  on your watch and tap Shortcut. Tap the switch  to turn the shortcut on or off, and tap Long press to change the assigned shortcut.

Double-press the button

Double-press the button to open shortcuts to your voice assistant, quick settings, notifications, and contactless payments. Tap a shortcut to open it.

Check your tiles

From the clock face, swipe right or left to navigate through your tiles. View your progress toward your daily goal, a summary of today’s activity, your heart rate throughout the day, your latest sleep metrics, body responses your watch detected (Sense 2 only), set a timer, start an exercise, or check the weather forecast.

To manage which tiles are included and the order they’re shown in:

  1. From the Today tab  in the Fitbit app, tap devices   your device image Gallery.
  2. In the My Tiles section of the Sense 2 or Versa 4 tab, tap Manage.
    • To rearrange the tiles, tap and hold the grid icon . Move the tile up or down in the list, then release it to place it in a new position.
    • To delete a tile, press the X icon  Remove.
    • To add a tile, tap Add tile  tap the tile you want to add Install.
