Add or remove owners

Owners have full control over sites in Webmaster Tools. They can add and remove other users, configure settings, view all data, and use all tools. If you want to give someone more limited permissions, add them as a user instead. Not sure? Read about permissions in Webmaster Tools.

Only site owners can add or remove users or other owners. If you've added and verified your site in Webmaster Tools), you're a site owner. If you want to add users or owners to a subsite (for example, if you want to add a user to http://monkeys.example.com but not to http://example.com), you should add and verify that subsite separately.

Add an owner

  1. On the Webmaster Tools home page, click Manage next to the site you want, and then click Add or remove users.
  2. Click the Manage site owners link.
  3. In the Verified owners section, click Add an owner.
  4. Type the email address of the owner you want to add, and then click Continue.

Once this is complete, the new user should sign in to Webmaster Tools and add the site in the normal way. The user will be automatically verified.

You can also remove owners from an account. This is useful if, for example, an employee leaves your company.

Remove an owner

To completely remove an owner and block access to Webmaster Tools, follow the steps below. In addition, you must also remove the verification token (for example, meta tag, HTML file, or DNS record) originally used to verify this account. If this account was verified using a Google Analytics tracking code, you should make sure that the user you want to unverify is no longer an administrator on the Analytics account. Otherwise, removal may not be permanent.
  1. On the Webmaster Tools home page, click Manage next to the site you want, and then click Add or remove users.
  2. Click the Manage site owners link.
  3. In the Verified owners section, click Unverify next to the owner you want to remove.

Be sure not to delete the original owner of the site. If this happens, all owners may become unverified.
