Cast YouTube TV

With YouTube TV, you can watch live TV from major broadcast networks, popular cable networks, and premium networks using Chromecast. You can also record and cast your favorite programs to your TV. YouTube TV includes DVR without storage space limits. 

Step 1. Set up Chromecast

To cast YouTube TV from your mobile device, tablet, or computer to your TV, you must set up Chromecast.
Note: Chromecast and Chromecast Ultra are supported. You can cast from Chromecast (1st gen) but your experience isn’t optimized. 

Step 2. Sign up for YouTube TV

If you haven't already, sign up and customize your YouTube TV membership.

Step 3. Cast programs to your TV

  1. Make sure your mobile device or tablet is on the same Wi-Fi network as Chromecast.
  2. Open the YouTube TV app.
  3. Tap the Cast button Inactive cast extension . This is found at the top of the app Home screen. 
  4. Choose the device you want to cast to.
  5. Choose a TV show or video.
  6. Tap Play. 

Step 4. Stop casting

Tap or click the Cast button Inactive cast extension and then Disconnect.

Fix a problem

If you're experiencing issues with video streaming, try the first troubleshooting tip and see if it fixes the problem. If not, move to the next step.

Close & reopen the YouTube TV app:

  1. Exit out of the YouTube TV app, and then reopen open it. 
  2. Try watching your video again after reopening the app.

Check for updates:

  1. Check that you've installed the latest system updates for your device.
  2. Update to the newest available version of the YouTube TV app.
  3. Uninstall and reinstall the YouTube TV app.

Check your connection:

  1. Make sure you're connected to the Internet. Note: YouTube TV requires a connection of at least 3 Mbps for optimal viewing experience.
  2. Turn off and on your mobile data connection.
  3. Change the video quality to a lower setting. Select the overflow menu  in the video player > Quality.
  4. Close the video player by pulling down to minimize it, and then swiping to the right. Reopen the player and try watching the video again. 

Reboot your Chromecast:

  1. Unplug the power cord from the Chromecast device.
  2. Leave it unplugged for ~1 minute.
  3. Plug the power cord back in.

Reboot your router:

  1. Unplug the power cord from the router
  2. Leave it unplugged for ~1 minute.
  3. Plug the power cord back and allow it to reboot.

Restart your mobile device or browser:

  1. Hold down the power button to power off your device, wait 30 seconds, and then restart your device.
