Set up an AdSense account for payments

If you are applying to join the YouTube Partner Program, you need to associate an approved AdSense account to earn money and get paid.

Before you start: You can only have one AdSense account under the same payee name per AdSense's Terms and Conditions. Duplicate AdSense accounts created through YouTube will not be approved and monetization will be turned off for the associated YouTube channel.

Use the instructions below to link to the right AdSense account for your YouTube channel. You can use your existing AdSense account or create a new one. You can monetize more than one YouTube channel with the same AdSense account.

If you are already approved for the YouTube Partners Program and want to change the AdSense account associated with your YouTube channel, you can do so by following these instructions.

I don’t know if I have an AdSense account

Please search your inboxes for emails from "AdSense" or "adsense-noreply@gmail.com".
You can only have one AdSense account under the same payee name per AdSense's Terms and Conditions. If you're found to have a duplicate, your AdSense account will be disapproved and you'll be asked to close other related accounts.

I already have an approved AdSense account

  1. Sign in to your YouTube account and go to https://studio.youtube.com/channel/UC/monetization
  2. Click Start on the “Sign up for Google AdSense” card.
  3. You’ll need to enter your YouTube account password and re-authenticate. Learn how to re-authenticate your YouTube account.
  4. Choose the Google account you want to use to sign in to AdSense. If you're already an AdSense publisher, you must sign in with the Google account that you use to access your existing AdSense account. This may be different than the log-in credentials you use to log in to YouTube.

  8. Once you’ve connected your AdSense, we’ll mark this step with a green “Done” sign on the “Sign up for Google AdSense” card.

I don’t have an approved AdSense account

  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to create a new AdSense account. Provide your contact information and submit your AdSense application.
  7.  You'll be redirected back to YouTube Studio and will see a message saying that your AdSense application has been received.
  8. AdSense will update you by mail once your AdSense account is approved. It may take up to several days for the AdSense account to be approved.

Use YouTube's Content Management System

If you've been granted rights to administer the content for a content owner, you can associate an AdSense account with your content owner account:
  1. Go to the Settings Overview page for your YouTube content owner. For now, you will have to return to Classic Content Manager to find the AdSense settings.
  2. In the AdSense section of the page, click edit .
  3. Click Continue to AdSense.
  4. You’ll need to enter your YouTube account password and re-authenticate. Learn how to re-authenticate your YouTube account.
  5. Choose the Google account you want to use to sign in to AdSense. If you're already an AdSense publisher, you must sign in with the Google Account that you use to access your existing AdSense account.
  6. If prompted, enter the password for your AdSense account. This may be different than the log-in credentials you use to log in to YouTube.
  7. Confirm the YouTube channel you're associating the AdSense account with, and choose the primary language for the channel. Although you select one YouTube channel to complete the AdSense Association, YouTube will serve ads on all channels linked to your content owner.
  8. Click Accept Association and provide your billing information, if prompted.
Once you've finished this process, you'll be redirected back to YouTube. Learn more about AdSense's application review waiting times.

Common issues

You may experience some issues when trying to link an AdSense account to your channel. Below is some guidance on how to identify and work through some common issues.

Duplicate accounts

You can only have one AdSense account under the same payee name per AdSense's Terms and Conditions. If you’re found to have a duplicate account, your AdSense account will be disapproved and you’ll be asked to close other related accounts.

Resolution: Please search your inboxes for emails from “AdSense” with the subject: “You already have an AdSense account”. This email will contain information about your existing AdSense account. You’ll have to decide whether to use your existing account to monetize your channel or to cancel it

I’m seeing a “Oops, something went wrong” error in YouTube Studio

This error usually happens when you try to make changes with emails that are not recognized to YouTube Studio. A few things to look out for:

  • When you link an AdSense account, YouTube Studio will first ask to “Verify It’s You”. Make sure you verify it’s you by using the email you use to log in to YouTube.
  • Once this is done, you’ll be asked to select a Google account to continue to AdSense (at this point it’s okay to select an email address that is different from the one you use for YouTube Studio).

AdSense is asking me for a website URL to sign up

When linking your YouTube channel to a new AdSense account, do not create a new AdSense account through www.adsense.com. If you do, your account will be disapproved and monetization will be disabled for your YouTube channel. Instead, create an AdSense account directly from within YouTube Studio.
