You can charge your Pixel phone wirelessly or with a USB-C cable. You can also know when your phone is charging and how to use Adaptive Charging for Pixel 4 and later.

Open your phone's Settings app.
Tap Battery.

How to charge your Pixel phone with a cable

Check the USB-C port and cable

In the port at the bottom of your phone, plug either end of the USB-C cable.
Plug the other end of the cable into the power adaptor.
Plug your power adaptor into a power socket.

How to charge your Pixel phone quickly

Important: All Pixel phones can charge with USB-C cables. For best results, use the power adaptor that comes with some phones, like Pixel 5a (5G).

Use a wall socket as a power source. Other power sources, like laptops, can charge more slowly.
You can use your phone while charging. To charge faster, don't use it while charging.

How to charge your Pixel phone wirelessly

Important: Wireless charging is available on Pixel 3 and later devices, excluding Pixel 3a, 4a, 4a 5G, 5a and 6a.

Check your device compatibility.
Choose a compatible wireless charger.
- Make sure that you're using a Qi 1.x-certified wireless charger or Pixel Stand compatible with your device. Learn how to charge your phone with a Pixel Stand.
  - Qi is a registered trademark of Wireless Power Consortium Inc.
- MagSafe wireless chargers aren't compatible nor certified to work with Pixel devices.
- Wireless chargers support different wattage outputs. Higher wattage generally means faster charging but your device must also support the higher speed. For more info check the 'Battery and charging' section for your device in Pixel phone hardware tech specs.

Set up your wireless charger.
- Plug your wireless charger into a wall socket using the provided adaptor or a compatible one or use a built-in wireless charger such as those available in cars.
- Make sure that you place the charger on a stable surface, free from any metal objects or magnetic materials that could interfere with charging.

For optimal wireless charging:

Remove cases: Remove your phone case if you experience slow or interrupted charging. Thick or metallic cases, including cases with alignment magnets or stickers with ring holders can affect charging speeds or hinder wireless charging altogether.
Avoid movement: Try not to move or use your device excessively while it's charging wirelessly, as this can disrupt the connection.
Keep it cool: Avoid charging in extremely hot environments (including direct sunlight) as this can affect battery and charging performance. If possible, ensure that you have cool and adequate airflow, especially when in a vehicle.

Tip: Your phone can charge faster when the battery is low because the battery can accept a higher charging current, allowing it to replenish energy more quickly.

Wireless charging on Pixel 9 Pro Fold

Important: Pixel 9 Pro Fold doesn't support the Pixel Stand due to the position of the wireless charging coil, but it supports many other wireless chargers. To align your phone correctly with a compatible wireless charger, check the charging indicator on your phone.

Know when your phone is charging

Important: Make sure that your phone's ring sound is turned on. Learn how to change your phone volume.

Open your phone's Settings app.
Tap Sound and vibration.
Turn on Charging sounds and vibration.
The charging indicator will illuminate and your phone will vibrate when you plug in your phone or place it on a wireless charger.

How to use charging optimisation

You can prolong your battery's lifespan with charging optimisation. By learning your charging habits, your phone minimises the time that it spends fully charged. You can also limit charging to 80%.

To turn on charging optimisation:

Open your phone's Settings app.
Tap Battery Charging optimisation.
Turn on Use charging optimisation.
- If you want to charge your phone's battery to only 80%, tap Limit to 80%.
- If you want to finish charging to 100% right before you normally unplug, tap Adaptive Charging.

How to use Adaptive Charging

Your Pixel can prolong the life of the battery by learning your charging habits and by fully charging before you need to use it. When you charge your phone for a long time or overnight, Adaptive Charging may turn on to charge to 100% one hour before you unplug.

This feature works on the following phones:

Pixel 4: Turns on when you charge your phone between 9.00 p.m. and 4.00 a.m. with an active alarm set for 3.00–10.00 a.m. Find out how to set an alarm.
Pixel 4a and later, including Fold: Adaptive Charging learns from your charging habits. If a long charging session is predicted, it may still turn on aside from the above-mentioned condition.

Tips:

This feature needs about 14 days to learn your charging habits. If your charging habits vary, like when you travel, Adaptive Charging may not turn on.
When Adaptive Charging is turned on, a notification displays the time your battery will be fully charged.

To turn off Adaptive Charging:

Open your phone's Settings app.
Tap Battery Charging optimisation.
Turn off Use charging optimisation.

Limit charging to 80%

To help extend the lifespan of your Pixel's battery, you can limit charging of your phone to 80%. This feature is available on Pixel 6a and later devices.

Open your phone's Settings app.
Tap Battery Charging optimisation.
Turn on Charging optimisation.
Tap Limit to 80%.

Tip: Your Pixel will occasionally charge to 100% to ensure accurate battery capacity readings.

Charging tips

Which power adaptors and cables to use for your Pixel phone?

Important: To charge your phone with a USB-A power adaptor, use a USB-C to USB-A cable. This charges your phone more slowly than USB-C.

Pixel phones use USB-C with USB 2.0 power adaptors and cables.
For power adaptors, you can use:
- Google 30 W or 45W USB-C power adaptor.
- Any Programmable Power Supply (PPS) power adaptor rated for 30 W or more.
- Other USB Power Delivery (PD) adaptors rated for 15 W or more.
Only Pixel 9 Pro XL can charge up to more than 30 W.
Other cables and power adaptors might not work with Pixel phones and charging speed may vary depending on the charger and cable used.

Check if your charging accessory works with your Pixel phone?

If you get a 'Check charging accessory' notification, your cable or USB power adaptor may not be supported by your phone or is damaged. This results in your phone to charge very slowly or to not charge at all.

To fix the problem, try charging with a compatible cable and charger. Learn which power adaptor and cable to use to charge your phone.

How do I use Battery Share to charge other devices wirelessly?

Important: Battery Share is available on Pixel 5 and later devices, excluding Pixel 6a, Pixel 7a, Pixel 8a, Pixel Fold and Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

Use Battery Share to wirelessly charge Qi-certified phones or accessories like Pixel Buds. To use this feature, place your accessory or other phone on the back of your Pixel phone. Learn how to charge other devices with Pixel.

Tip: To charge wirelessly with Battery Share, your phone needs to have enough battery level.

Why is my phone charging slower than usual?

Over time, your Pixel phone's battery may decline in performance due to usage patterns, temperature and age. To help preserve battery life, some Pixel phones may automatically adjust their charging to manage device and battery temperatures. In some cases, this could result in slower charging speed.

Technical notes

If you want to remove the battery, we suggest that you take it to an authorised repair service provider. We don't recommend that you remove the battery yourself.
Power adaptors vary by country or region.
