Charge your Pixel phone

All Pixel phones can charge with USB-C cables. For best results, use the power adaptor that comes with some phones, like Pixel 5a (5G). If your phone isn't charging correctly, learn how to fix a phone that doesn't charge.

You can wirelessly charge Qi-compliant accessories or phones, like Pixel Buds, through Battery Share on your Pixel 6 Pro, 6 or 5. Set your accessory or other phone on the back of your phone to charge.

How to charge your phone

  1. Plug either end of the USB-C cable into the port on the bottom of your phone.
  2. Plug the other end of the cable into the power adaptor that came with your phone.
  3. Plug your power adaptor into a power socket.

Tip: It’s a good idea to fully charge the battery of a new phone. After that, charge as much or as little as needed. (You don’t have to go from full to zero charge, or from zero to full charge.)

Charge overnight until your alarm goes off (Pixel 4 and later)

Important: When you charge your phone between 9.00 p.m. and 4.00 a.m. with an active alarm set for 3.00–10.00 a.m., your phone uses adaptive charging. Learn how to set an alarm.

To help preserve long-term battery life, you can charge your phone steadily overnight. Adaptive charging uses your alarm’s settings to completely charge your phone just before you wake up.

To turn off adaptive charging:

  1. Open your phone's Settings app.
  2. Tap Battery and then Adaptive Battery.
  3. Turn off adaptive charging.

Tip: When adaptive charging is on, the always-on display will display 'Adaptive charging' and the time that your battery will be fully charged.

Charging tips

How to charge quickly

  • Use a wall socket as a power source. Other power sources, such as laptops, can charge more slowly.
  • You can use your phone while charging. To charge faster, don't use it while charging.

Hear when your phone is charging

  1. Make sure that your phone's ring sound is turned on. Learn how to change your phone volume.
  2. Open your phone's settings app.
  3. Tap Sound And then Advanced.
  4. Turn on Charging sounds.
  5. When you plug in your phone, you'll hear a sound.
Note: If your phone is muted or on vibrate, you won't hear a sound.

Which power adaptors and cables to use

  • Pixel phones use USB-C with USB 2.0 power adaptors and cables.
  • To charge your phone with a USB-A power adaptor, use a USB-C to USB-A cable. This will charge your phone more slowly than USB-C.
  • Other Android cables and power adaptors might not work with Pixel phones.
  • Pixel 3a, Pixel 2 and Pixel (2016) phones can't charge wirelessly.

Technical notes

  • The battery can’t be removed. The phone shouldn't be opened, except by authorised repair services.
  • The power adaptor varies by country or region.
  • The power adaptor has a maximum output of 30 W or 18 W (9 V/2 A).
