Get the most life from your battery

Here are some tips to help your Android device’s battery last longer throughout the life of your device.

If your battery is running low now, first turn on battery saver mode. Then learn to stretch a low battery's power.

Note: Some of these steps work only on Android 8.0 and up. Learn how to check your Android version.

Take care of your battery

Use the charger that came with your device

Other power adapters and chargers can charge slowly, not at all, or damage your device or battery.

Keep it cool

Avoid situations where your device can overheat.

Your battery will drain much faster when it's hot, even if you're not using it. This kind of drain can damage your battery.

Tip: Your device warms up when it's plugged in, so don’t keep it charging more than needed.

Charge as much or little as needed

You don’t need to teach your device how much capacity the battery has by going from full to zero charge, or from zero to full charge.

Choose settings that use less battery

Change screen display

Let your screen turn off sooner

To reduce battery drain when you're not using your screen, set a shorter time before your screen turns off.

  1. Open your device's Settings app Settings app.
  2. Tap Display and then Advanced and then Sleep.
  3. Pick an option.

Reduce screen brightness

To save battery, lower your screen’s brightness.

  1. Swipe down with two fingers from the top of your screen. This opens your Quick Settings panel.
  2. At the top of the screen, move the slider left.

Have screen brightness change automatically

To save battery, have your screen’s brightness change with the light around you.

  1. Open your device's Settings app Settings app.
  2. Tap Display.
  3. Turn on Adaptive brightness.
