How to fix: Missing product in primary feed

Use identifiers that match the products in your primary feed and make sure to select the same target country in both feeds

You have uploaded a supplemental feed in an attempt to update some of your product data, but one or more of the items in that feed does not already exist in your primary feed. For example, let’s say you upload a supplemental feed to change the price of an item called "red shoes," but never successfully uploaded the item “red shoes” via your primary feed. Since the item does not exist in your product data it cannot be updated. As a result, your update has been rejected for this item.

To resolve this issue make sure to use the identifier of an existing item in your primary feed.

Instructions

Step 1: See the affected products

  • Sign in to your Merchant Center account.
  • Click Products on the navigation menu, then click Feeds.
  • Select a supplemental feed you want to review to see the current issues affecting your feed.
  • Click the Processing tab to see basic file and data issues affecting your products.
  • Click on the error message “Missing product in primary feed” under “Issue” to view further details.
To download a report of basic processing issues:
  • Click DOWNLOAD REPORT above the table of issues.

Step 2: Select the right target country for your products

  1. Filter the downloaded report so that you only see products with:
"Issue title" = Missing product in primary feed.
  2. Use identifiers that match the products in your primary feed, and make sure to select the same target country in both feeds

Step 3: Resubmit your product data

  1. After you’ve updated your product data, resubmit it using one of these methods:
  2. Next, check that you’ve fixed the issue by making sure it’s no longer listed on the Diagnostics page.

Keep in mind: It may take some time for your change to be reflected on the Diagnostics page.
