Product status definitions

After you've submitted product data to Merchant Center, a status will be assigned to each item. The status of your item lets you know if your product is eligible to appear in Shopping ads.

You can find the status of your products:

  • in the Product overview graph(s) of your account's Dashboard for the listed destinations.
  • in the Products tab of your account.

Remember that your products need to be used in an active AdWords Shopping campaign before they can appear as ads. Your ad performance also depends on general factors besides status like relevance, budget, bidding, and location settings. Learn more about Shopping ads and campaigns

Active

Active items are fully approved and are eligible to appear in results if they're in stock.

Pending

An item that's pending won't show in ads because it's being processed by Google. Your item might be pending for any of these reasons:

  • You're new to Merchant Center. When you've uploaded product data to your account for the first time, our specialists review your account to ensure it meets our requirements and Shopping ads policies. This processing can take up to 3 business days  for Shopping ads and can take up to a few weeks for other programs.
  • Your item has a pending image crawl. You don't need to do anything right now. Your image will automatically appear once we've fetched it. If we encounter any problems, we'll let you know. This processing can take up to 3 business days.
  • You submitted products for a beta target country. If you submit a feed to a beta country, it may take significantly longer for your items to be reviewed. Learn more about beta target countries

Disapproved

Your item is disapproved and isn't active.

There are a few common reasons why your item may be disapproved:

  • Processing: Your item was rejected during initial feed processing for issues such as missing required attributes. You can view the processing issues for a specific data feed in the Summary page for that feed in the Feeds tab, or you can view all of the processing issues consolidated in the Diagnostics tab.
  • Policy disapprovals: Your website and/or specific items that you’ve submitted don't comply with our policies; as a result, your account or those specific items have been disapproved by our specialists. Review our policies for additional information. We may also preemptively disapprove other items in your product data that potentially violate the same policy. Learn more about preemptive item disapprovals.
  • Data quality disapprovals: Your product doesn't comply with our feed specifications or with the attribute requirements for your target country. Go to the Diagnostics tab of your account for more information on which attributes are missing or what values are incorrect, or refer to email notifications if you’ve opted in the receiving Mandatory Service Announcements.

To view reporting for issues across your entire account, visit the Diagnostics tab.

Expiring

Your item will expire in the next 3 days, and will no longer be eligible to appear as an ad. Until it expires, the item is still eligible to appear in results.

There are two reasons why your item may be expiring:

  • You haven't updated your product data in the last 30 days. In order to keep the product information displayed in Shopping ads up-to-date, all products expire after 30 days. If you want your products to remain active, you'll need to update your product data.
  • You're using the attribute 'expiration date' in your data feed and have provided an expiration date that's within 3 days of the current date. If you plan to update your data feed daily, it is OK to set short expiration dates; however such items will be displayed as “expiring” in your account. Learn more about the ‘expiration date’ attribute in our feed specifications.
