How to fix: Item data is too large

Reduce the size of the item's data. Resubmit your feed after making changes.

One or more of the items listed in your feed has an unusually high number of characters instead of relevant text. You may see this error for the following reasons:

  • An item contains more than 1,000 attributes.
  • The content provided for an attribute exceeds 10 KB.
  • The total size of data submitted for a single item exceeds 100 KB.

While you may not be able to check the exact size of your attributes or items, you can take steps to reduce their size. You can also ensure that your content doesn't include Javascript code or HTML. Your data feed should only include text which directly explains your products. See the product data specification for details on attributes.

Instructions

Step 1: See the affected items

  • Sign in to your Merchant Center account.
  • Click Products on the navigation menu, then click Feeds.
  • Select the feed you want to review to see the current issues affecting your feed.
  • Click the Processing tab to see basic file and data issues affecting your items.
  • Click on the error message “Item data is too large” under “Issue” to view further details.

To download a report of basic processing issues:
  • Click DOWNLOAD REPORT above the table of issues.

Step 2: Reduce the size of affected items

For items that are not products, reduce the size for each, considering attribute size, characters, and total size of the item.

  1. For products, filter the downloaded report so that you only see products with:
“Issue title” = Item data is too large
  2. Check your product data for affected products (using the item ID), and then reduce the size of the data for those products, considering attribute size, characters, and total size.

Step 3: Resubmit your product data

1. After you’ve updated your product data, resubmit it using one of these methods:

2. Check that you’ve fixed the issue by making sure it’s no longer listed on the Processing tab.

Keep in mind: It may take some time for your changes to be reflected on the Processing tab.
