Returns and refunds on Google Play

You may be able to get a refund if you return something you bought on Google Play. Check the relevant section below to see our policy and find out how to request a refund. Note: We may decline requests for refunds that appear to be abusing our processes.

Apps & games refunds

Apps & games from the Google Play Store

Within 2 hours of purchase

You can usually return any app or game within 2 hours for a full refund.

  1. Open the Google Play Store app Google Play.
  2. Touch the menu icon Google Play Store Menu Icon> My account.
  3. Scroll down to Order History and find the app or game you'd like to return.
  4. Touch Refund to complete your refund and uninstall the app.

Note: you can only return an app or game for a refund once. If you buy it again you will not be able to get a refund.

After 2 hours or more

Contact the developer

If Google Play's 2-hour return period has passed, the developer is responsible for deciding if you are eligible for a refund. Contact the app developer directly and ask for a refund. You can find an app developer's contact information listed on an app or game's detail page on Google Play. For instructions, go to help with an Android app or game.

Optional: Contact Google

If the developer hasn't helped, Google may be able to. Contact our support team for help solving your problem.

Purchases made within apps & games

Many apps let you buy things to play new levels, gain extra powers, or access more information in the app. We call these "in-app purchases." To request a refund for an in-app purchase:

Contact the developer

First: try to troubleshoot the problem.

Next: If that doesn't work, contact the developer and ask for a refund. Developers usually decide whether to give refunds for in-app purchases, and developers are responsible for delivering your in-app purchases.

You can find an app developer's contact information listed on an app or game's detail page on Google Play. For instructions, go to help with an Android app or game.

Note that if you get a refund for an in-app purchase you may lose content, progress, or access to the app.

Optional: Contact Google

If the developer hasn't helped, Google may be able to. Contact our support team for help solving your problem.

Subscriptions within apps & games

Request refunds for in-app subscriptions from the developer, as developers decide whether to give refunds for these purchases. You can find contact information for the developer listed on an app or game's detail page on Google Play. Also, make sure to cancel the subscription as refunds and subscription cancellations are separate. Learn more about in-app subscriptions and cancellations.

Note: This applies to subscriptions in apps and games. For subscriptions to magazines and news content, see the separate policy below.
