Update your customer list

This article explains the steps you need to follow to update and manage your existing customer lists. 

Once your customer data file has been uploaded, you have the option of updating your customer list. Learn more about how to create a customer list.

To successfully use your customer data file, it’s important to ensure that you format your customer list correctly. 

Refresh your Customer list audiences regularly so that your most important customers remain in your audiences targeting.

In the previous AdWords experience, you can only use email matching for Customer Match.

You can use all data types specified in the formatting guidelines below in the new Google Ads experience. Determine which Google Ads experience you’re using.

To replace all of the data in the existing upload file with a new file, use the "Replace existing list with a new file" option. To add or remove specific email addresses, use the "Add more email addresses" or "Remove email addresses" options.

Replace your existing file

  1. Click Shared library.
  2. Click Audiences.
  3. In your table of audiences, click your customer match audience list.
  4. Click the pencil icon.
  5. Select the "Replace existing list with a new file" option.
  6. Choose your new file.
  7. Click Upload and save list.

Add email addresses

  1. Click Shared library.
  2. Click Audiences.
  3. In your table of audiences, click your customer match audience list.
  4. Click the pencil icon.
  5. Select the "Add more email addresses" option.
  6. Choose the data file that contains the data you want to add.
  7. Click Upload and save list.

Remove email addresses

  1. Click Shared library.
  2. Click Audiences.
  3. In your table of remarketing lists, click your customer match audience list.
  4. Click the pencil icon.
  5. Select the "Remove email addresses" option.
  6. Choose the file that contains the email addresses you want to remove.
  7. Click Upload and save list.
