Most Fitbit devices automatically recognize and record high-movement activities through the SmartTrack feature. Certain Fitbit devices also detect workouts and automatically open the Exercise app.
Manage automatically tracked activities through SmartTrack
To start, your device recognizes activities at least 15 minutes long. To manage which activities are tracked automatically or adjust the minimum duration:
- From the Today tab
in the Fitbit app, tap the Exercise days tile.
- Tap the gear icon
at the top.
- Tap the activity you want to adjust.

Manage automatically tracked activities through the Exercise auto-start feature
Charge 6, Inspire 3, Sense 2, and Versa 4 can automatically detect certain workouts and open the Exercise app after a few minutes. To turn on this feature:
- Open the Exercise app.
- Tap the Bike, Elliptical, Rowing, Run, Spinning, or Walk option.
- Swipe up. Auto Start is turned on by default, but if you turned it off, tap to turn it back on. The next time your device detects this workout type, the Exercise app automatically opens.
Note:
- The first time you start an auto-detected workout, your Fitbit device will vibrate and a message will appear, asking if you want to track the exercise. You'll have 30 minutes to confirm that you want to track it. If you don't interact with the message, it appears again during your next auto-detected workout for one minute. Be sure to tap the start button on your Fitbit device to dismiss the confirmation screen and automatically track that exercise type in the future.
- To automatically detect when your workout ends, you can also turn on Auto-Stop.
- GPS is off by default for the Walk option.
Check your stats
On certain devices, check basic stats about your activity, including duration and calories burned, in the Exercise tile 
Choose which activities your device tracks automatically, or change the amount of time needed to record the activity. For example, choose to turn off automatic tracking for a walk, or to record an outdoor bike ride after 5 minutes.
- From the Today tab
- Tap more

tap Activity Settings.
- Tap an exercise, and adjust the duration or turn off Auto-recognize
- On the Fitbit settings page, click your device under the Devices menu.
- Under Auto-Exercise Recognition, for each exercise adjust the duration or select Ignored to turn off automatic exercise recognition.
, and then tap Exercise days. For example, your device might detect a walk, but you can edit your exercise history to record a hike. - Current heart rate and heart-rate zone
- Calories burned since starting the video
- Active Zone Minutes earned since starting the video
To check real-time stats:
On your phone, open the Fitbit app and tap the Coach tab 
To hide real-time stats:
During a workout, tap the video on your phone's screen 
on your stats. To check your stats again, tap the expand icon

Earn Active Zone Minutes or active minutes
with heart-pumping activity throughout the day, including a brisk walk, run, or interval workout.

An hourly activity goal helps you keep moving throughout the day. To start, your goal is to take at least 250 steps per hour (which equals a few minutes of walking) from 9:00 AM–6:00 PM, 7 days a week. You can adjust the hours that you track your goal and receive reminders to move.

A weekly exercise goal helps you stay active. The American Heart Association recommendations 30 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity at least 5 days per week (source). To start, your goal is 5 days per week, but you can track your goal 1–7 days per week. Any exercise that your device records counts toward your goal.

To start, your primary goal is 10,000 steps per day. When you hit this goal, your device vibrates, and a celebration appears on the screen. Choose to increase or decrease your step goal, or to change your goal to Active Zone Minutes or calories burned. You can also set goals in other areas such as sleep and hydration.
