Link Google Places and AdWords

  • Link a Google Places for Business account to your AdWords account for use with location extensions and other location-related features.
  • Linking these accounts lets you include your business address with your AdWords ads so you can attract more customers -- especially those who are close by and searching for what you're offering.

How to link a Google Places account with AdWords

If you have a Google Places for Business account, you can link it to your AdWords account. See the steps to link your account for either upgraded or legacy extensions.

Instructions to link a Google Places account (Upgraded only)
  1. Sign in to your AdWords account at https://adwords.google.com.
  2. Click the Campaigns tab and select one of your campaigns.
  3. Click the Ad Extensions tab. Campaigns Tab - Upgraded
  4. Select View: Location extensions from the drop-down menu above the extensions table.
  5. Click + Extension to link an existing Google Places account to your campaign. Once you link your Google Places account, your Places business locations will be applied to all of your campaigns, unless you set up a filter to exclude any of your campaigns.
Instructions to link a Google Places account (Legacy only)
  1. Sign in to your AdWords account at https://adwords.google.com.
  2. Click the Campaigns tab. Campaigns Tab - Upgraded
  3. If you see the Ad extensions tab in the "All online campaigns" section, click on it. If you don't see the tab, click the triangle, check the box next to "Ad extensions" and click OK. Then, click the Ad extensions tab. Ad extensions tab
  4. Click the "View" drop-down menu and select "Location Extensions".
  5. Click "Addresses from Google Places".
  6. Click New extension. New extension button
  7. In the "Select a campaign" section, choose the ad campaign you'd like to link to your Google Places account. Select a campaign
  8. Check that the email shown in the "Add Google Places account" section is the one you'd like to link to this campaign. If it isn't, click Use a different account. Use a different account
  9. If you only want to link some addresses in your Places account to be associated with this campaign, check the box next to "Filter," then select how you'd like to define which addresses to include. You can add multiple conditions by clicking + Add another. For example, you could create filters for a specific business name in a region to only show one set of your stores.
  10. Click Save. Save

You can repeat this process to link more ad campaigns to this or another Google Places account.
