Traffic an in-stream video creative

Some video features and settings might not be enabled for your network. You can see Video Solutions feature availability or contact your account manager for more information.

In-stream video creatives in Ad Manager are known as creative sets. Three types of creative sets are supported: videos, overlays, and redirects. You can traffic creative sets directly from a line item, or independent of a line item, which can later be assigned to a line item.

A single asset in a creative set should play a single creative. To assign different creative variations to a line item, use multiple creative sets.

Add a new in-stream video creative from a line item

  1. Sign in to Google Ad Manager.

  2. Click Delivery and then Line items.

  3. Open your video line item. Creative sets only apply to video line item types, so you won't see them for display line items. You can click Video in the "Line items" menu to see only video line items.

  4. Click Add creative sets and then New creative set.
  5. Enter a name for the creative set and select from one of the creative set types:

To add a video creative independent of a line item, click Delivery and then Creatives and then Creative sets and then New creative set and choose Video VAST.

Video creative type  Video

The video creative type allows you to traffic pre-rolls, mid-rolls, or post-rolls. They can either be hosted by Ad Manager or externally. Publishers enabled for cross-sell with YouTube can traffic YouTube-hosted videos.

Ad Manager-hosted assets Externally-hosted assets

Upload a supported media file to Ad Manager to transcode it into all available formats and sizes.

  • Transcoding begins after a file is successfully uploaded, and may continue after the creative is saved. An upload is canceled if you leave the page or click "Save" before it's complete.
  • You can see transcoding status in the "Creative sets" table on the "Delivery" tab.
  • If you have multiple assets, each with a different bitrate or format, repeat these steps for each asset.

Enter externally-hosted asset URLs to be ingested into Ad Manager, with their metadata.

  • You can add a maximum of 40 URLs, one per line, replacing any spaces in the URLs with %20.
  • Secure protocols (https) are not supported for metadata extraction from externally-hosted assets. You can instead use an http URL or manually enter the metadata into Ad Manager.
  • If the metadata cannot be extracted, assets are displayed in the metadata table without values.

When a video ad serves to a player that uses the IMA SDK, the bitrate used is based on the quality of the viewer's network connection. If a particular bitrate is desired, you can specify it in the IMA SDK settings.

Overlay creative type  Overlay

The overlay creative type is an image ad that covers part of the video content as it plays. You can either upload an image file to Ad Manager or use a remote image. You can optionally configure duration, scale, and third-party tracking URLs.

Redirect creative type   Redirect

The redirect creative type is a third-party hosted ad that can contain one or more video ads and/or overlay ads. Redirect creative types require advertiser-provided VAST tags. Because the VAST tags aren't hosted by Ad Manager, reporting is not available for companion creatives for this creative type.

The duration field is required for redirects with standard or optimized pods. It is not automatically updated if the creative duration changes.

If you use Campaign Manager, you can enter in-stream pfadx tags as the VAST tag URL.

Once you've added a creative set to a video line item, you can reuse the creative in other line items.

Optional settings for in-stream video creatives

Skippable (available for video creative types): If enabled, the user can skip the video ad after 5 seconds. If you're using VAST 3 or 4, the network-level skip time can be changed in the "Skippable video skip time" setting in the "Video" section of the "Admin" tab.

Skippable tracking (available for redirect creative types): If enabled, and a skippable ad is returned from the VAST redirect, Ad Manager allows VAST skippable tracking on the line item and creative. If disabled, and a skippable ad is returned, Ad Manager does not allow VAST skippable tracking.

This setting does not force a VAST redirect to be skippable. The skip time of a redirect creative cannot be controlled by Ad Manager.

Labels: You can group objects with labels.

Custom parameters: These appear in the VAST AdParameters field and are used by the SDK.

  • Custom parameters are not available for redirect creatives.
  • For all except VPAID creatives, enter custom parameters as key-value pairs, separated by commas (for example, key=value, key=value).
  • For VPAID creatives, custom parameters are a string (not key-value pairs) passed to the creative from the SDK.

Ad ID: Ad Manager currently supports the ad-id.org and clearcast.co.uk registries.

  • The ad-id.org identifiers must be four letters followed by seven or eight numbers or letters (for example, ABCD1234567 or ABCD123456EF.
  • The clearcast.co.uk clock numbers should have three letters followed by a slash ("/"), four letter and three numbers followed by a slash ("/") and three numbers (for example, AAA/BBBB123/456).

Third-party impression tracking URLs: You can enter multiple URLs for each type of tracking (except survey, custom click and click tracking, which only support one URL each). Redirects are not supported for survey URLs.
