Interoperability FAQ

Find answers to common questions about integrating non-Google video meeting systems with Hangouts Meet.

Overview

What is Meet interoperability with third-party systems?

Meet interoperability allows people to join your organization's Hangouts Meet video meeting from third-party videoconferencing systems, including SIP/H.323 devices from Cisco, Polycom, Lifesize, Sony, and others. You can also use Microsoft Skype for Business clients and Surface Hub.

What devices can connect to Meet?

Most SIP- or H.323-based devices can connect to Meet video meetings, including Cisco, Polycom, Lifesize, Sony, and others. Users of Microsoft Skype for Business clients and Surface Hub can also join Meet meetings.

Can I connect from Hangouts Meet to a Webex meeting?

No. Currently, Meet clients (including web, mobile, and Meet hardware) can only connect to Meet video meetings. The Meet interoperability allows third-party clients to connect to Meet video meetings, but not the other way around.

How can I learn more about interop?

Contact your Google account representative to learn more about Meet interoperability using Pexip.
To contact Pexip directly, email google@pexip.com.

Deployment

How can I enable Meet interop for my organization?

Meet interoperability is enabled using the G Suite partner product Pexip Infinity gateway.

To turn on Meet interoperability, purchase, download, and install the Pexip Infinity gateway. Then enable it using the G suite Admin console.

Can I deploy the Pexip Infinity gateway in Google Cloud?

Yes. The Pexip Infinity gateway can be deployed in Google Cloud, on-premise, or both (hybrid mode). Go to www.pexip.com to learn more about deployment options.

Do I need to deploy and maintain the Pexip Infinity myself? Isn’t there an easier way to get started?

Pexip Infinity can be deployed on your own cloud or on-premise with support from Pexip and their resellers.
You can use a managed service offered by one of Pexip’s service providers to get the service up and running faster. This option does not require you to deploy or maintain Pexip gateways.

How much does it cost?

Meet interoperability is included with all paid G Suite licenses at no additional cost. You must still purchase a license from Pexip or a Pexip partner.

For pricing information, email Pexip at google@pexip.com.

To use the managed service Videxio, email sales@videxio.com.

Who do I need to contact to get started?

To get started, contact your Google Account manager.

You can also contact Pexip directly at google@pexip.com.

User experience

How can I schedule and join interoperability-enabled meetings?

After your G Suite administrator enables Meet interoperability for your organization, all new Meet video meetings will automatically include instructions on how to join from third-party systems.

To join an interop-enabled meeting, follow the instructions in the meeting invitation.

I joined a Meet video meeting from a third-party system. Can I present my screen in the meeting or see content presented by others?

Yes and yes. You can present content as you normally do from a third party system and it will be visible to all participants in the call. You can also see content shared by others.

Does this work with Jamboard as well?

Yes. A Jam session appears as shared content on the third-party system.
