VAT impact if Google changes your account status

Applies to G Suite, Cloud Identity Premium, and other paid services managed in the Google Admin console.

For customers who select the Individual account type during billing setup, Google occasionally changes the account type to Business. The reason for this is that most Google service accounts are used for business purposes. A Business account type means that your account is used for economic activity; that is you expect to receive revenue from your activities.

Why did Google change my account type?

We believe that your account is a business account. Business account customers include corporations, affiliates, sole traders, self-employed merchants, and partnerships.

What does the change mean?

From now on, if you’re not an Irish customer, we won’t add VAT to your Google service charges. Instead, you’re responsible for self-assessing your own VAT and paying VAT on your service costs at your EU member state's local rate. If you’re an Irish customer, there’s no change to your billing. We’ll continue to charge Irish VAT.
