Add or edit a task

When you create a task, you can add details, set a date and time, add subtasks or make it repeat on certain days. You can create up to 100,000 tasks.

Tips:

  • If you add a date and time to your task, you'll get mobile notifications at the scheduled dates and times. For tasks that have a date but don't have a time, notifications appear at 9:00 AM. Tasks with a date also appear in your Google Calendar apps.
  • You can edit, complete, unassign, or delete group tasks assigned to you from your personal task list. If you make changes to group tasks in your personal task list, these tasks are updated or deleted in Gmail chat rooms. Learn more about group tasks.

Create a task

  1. On your Android phone, open the Google Tasks app Tasks.
  2. Tap Add a new task.
  3. Enter a task.
  4. To add a date and time or make a task repeat, tap Add date/time Date/time.
  5. Tap Save.

Add a task from an email

 
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app .
  2. In your inbox, find the email you want to save as a task and open it.
  3. In the top right, tap More and thenMoreAdd to Tasks.
    • If you task has subtasks it can't repeat.

Add a task from selected text

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, highlight a section of text. 
  2. Tap Share and then Tasks.

Change a task 

You can change the task name, add details, set a due date, or add subtasks. 

  1. On your Android phone, open the Google Tasks app  Tasks.
  2. Tap the task you want to edit. 
  3. Change the task info. 
    1. If the task you want to change is a repeating task, to change the date and time of the next task in the series, tap the date. To edit the date and time for all tasks, at the bottom, tap the repetition info. 
  4. Tap Back Back.
Tip: Assigned room tasks will be added to your default list but you can move it to another list by going into edit mode.

Mark a task as complete 

  1. On your Android phone, open the Google Tasks app  Tasks.

  2. To the left of a task, tap Complete Mark complete.

Tip: To mark tasks as complete in a room select the room where you’d like to mark a task as complete. If the task is already in your personal task list you’ll be able to mark the task as complete from your personal task list without the need to go to room to perform this action.

Delete a task 

  1. On your Android phone, open the Google Tasks app  Tasks.
  2. Tap the task you want to delete.
  3. Tap Delete trash can.

To delete one task in a repeating series:

  1. On your Android phone, go to the Calendar app.
  2. Tap the instance of the task you want to delete.
  3. Tap Delete trash can and then This task
Tip: To delete tasks in a room select the room you’d like to delete a task from. Deleting a task deletes it for all members of the room and from the assignee’s personal task list.

Copy your reminders into tasks

  1. On your phone, open the Google Tasks app Tasks.
  2. Tap more More and then Copy reminders to Tasks.
  3. Choose your options and tap Copy Reminders

Tip: You can't copy reminders with locations, attached emails, or reminders from Keep.
