Update all your feeds when making additions, updates, or removals. Only the served feed is used by Google but Google can change the served feed without notice.

Managing podcasts

Google Podcasts checks known feeds several times a day for updates, but changes can take some time to propagate to Google Podcasts platforms. You can check the last time Google saw your feed. If you have an important update, you can request a recrawl of your feed.

Add a podcast to Google
  1. See if your podcast is already on Google:
    1. Open Google Podcasts.
    2. Search for your podcast.
    3. If you find your podcast, there's no need to do anything more.
  2. If don't find your podcast on Google Podcasts, add it as described in Get your podcast on Google.
Update podcast information on Google

You can update information about your podcast in Google Podcasts, such as the name or description, by updating your RSS feed. If you use a podcast hosting service, make your changes in the management pages of your hosting service.

Google checks known feeds for changes several times a day; changes can take a few days to appear in Google Podcasts.

If you move the location of your RSS feed, for example, to another hosting service, see be sure to tell Google about your feed move.

Change the served feed
If Google Podcasts is serving the wrong feed for your show:
Remove a podcast from Google

To remove a podcast from Google Podcasts platforms (takes 3-4 weeks):

  • If you are using a podcast hosting service, read your service's documentation to learn how to stop serving a show. If you can't find instructions, see the next bullet.
  • If you are managing your own RSS feed, or if your podcast hosting service doesn't have instructions for removing your show from Google, you can do either of the following:
    • Remove or password-protect your RSS feed, or use robots.txt or noindex to block access to your RSS feed.

      OR

    • Add the following tag to your RSS feed as a direct child of the <channel> element: <itunes:block>yes</itunes:block>
Move your feed / Change podcasting hosts

If you move your podcast feed to a new URL, including moving to a new hosting service, here's how to tell Google (and other podcasting directories) about it.

Moving a feed without telling Google might cause Google to choose another feed or drop your show, if we can't find the right feed.

Managing episodes

Add or update an episode
To add, update, or remove an episode from Google Podcasts platforms, update your RSS feed (or your show details on your hosting service). Google checks known feeds for changes several times a day. In most cases, this is frequent enough that you don't need to do anything else. However, you can explicitly request a recrawl of your feed if you need an update within 30 minutes.
Remove an episode

To remove an episode from your show on Google Podcasts platforms:

  1. Use one of the following methods:
    • If you're using a podcasting hosting service, read your service's documentation to learn how to remove an episode from your show.
    • Remove the episode from your RSS feed - Should take less than a week to take effect.
    • Add the following tag to your RSS feed as a child of the <item> to block. Should take 3-4 weeks to to take effect. This tag prevents the podcast from appearing in Google Podcasts platforms, but it doesn't affect the visibility of the host page in Google Search.
      • <itunes:block>yes</itunes:block>
  2. Ask Google to recrawl your feed.

Be aware that it can take a day or two for changes to propagate out to listening platforms. That means that subscribed users might continue to see deleted episodes on their device playlist for a day or two, until the changes get pushed to those devices.

Also, deleting an episode from a feed does not delete downloaded episode from listeners' devices.
