How to fix: Duplicate value: GTIN [gtin]

Submit a unique value for each product

Two or more of the products in your product data use the same values for the GTIN [gtin], multipack [multipack], and condition [condition] attributes. This could be because you have one product listed twice in your product data or because you are using the same GTIN for 2 different products. If targeting the same language and country with multiple feeds, ensure that there are no duplicate GTINs across those feeds. To ensure that we can correctly identify your products, you’ll need to remove duplicate products, provide correct unique GTINs, and fix any errors in the multipack [multipack] and condition [condition] attributes.

This issue (Duplicate value: GTIN [gtin]) also occurs when a merchant submits the same GTIN value for items that should be grouped together using the item group ID [item_group_id]. These items are the same kind of product but come in different variants such as size and color. Submitting unique GTINs for each variant and adding the item group ID [item_group_id] attribute ensures that the product and its variants are shown to customers as a group rather than separately.

Instructions

Step 1: See the affected products

  1. Sign in to your Merchant Center account.
  2. Select Products on the navigation menu, then click Diagnostics.
  3. Click the Item issues tab to view current issues affecting your products.

To download a list (.csv) of all affected products for all issues:

  • Click the download button Download next to the filter button Download, beneath the graph and above the list of issues.

To download a list (.csv) of all affected products for a particular issue:

  • Find the issue under the “Issue” column, then click the download button Download at the end of the row.

To view a list of up to 50 products with this particular issue:

  • Find the issue under the “Issue” column, then click View examples in the “Affected items” column.

Step 2: Add unique values for each product

  1. Filter the downloaded report so that you only see products with:
"Issue title" = Duplicate value: GTIN [gtin]
  2. Search your product data for those products (using the ID). Make sure that you submit an accurate GTIN for each product and that you’ve submitted correct values for the multipack [multipack] and condition [condition] attributes.
  3. Submit a unique GTIN for each variant. Use the item group ID [item_group_id] attribute for items that are different variations of the same product.

Step 3: Resubmit your product data

  1. After you’ve updated your product data, resubmit it using one of these methods:
  2. Next, check that you’ve fixed the issue by making sure it’s no longer listed on the Diagnostics page.

Keep in mind: It may take some time for your change to be reflected on the Diagnostics page.
