Configure shipping settings of your loyalty program (US only)

Use the loyalty program to offer shipping benefits or fixed rates, depending on the perks associated with each membership tier. This article will help you to configure the shipping settings of your loyalty program.

Instructions

Step 1 of 2: Set up a unique shipping service

Create a new shipping service to associate with each tier label:

  1. In your Merchant Center account click the Tools and settings icon Tools and setting menu icon [Gear].
  2. Under "Tools", select Shipping and returns. This will take you to the “Shipping services” tab.
  3. Click + Add shipping services to create a shipping service.
  4. Under “Select Programs”, select Checkout on my website.
    • Select “Checkout on my website” only. This will only activate free product listings, and not the other destinations listed.

Repeat the steps to create a new shipping service, and add shipping benefits associated with each membership tier.

Shipping services

When creating a new shipping service, follow the naming convention: loyalty_program:program_label:tier_label. The program label should reflect the high-level program, the tier label should reflect the label specific to the tier.

Examples

  • loyalty_program:acme_loyalists:silver for orders >= $50 USD
  • loyalty_program:acme_loyalists:gold for orders >=$35 USD
  • loyalty_program:acme_loyalists:platinum free shipping

Your tier label is unique to your account. Setting up your tier label helps Google to automatically make an offer eligible for shipping benefits.

Step 2 of 2: Set order value threshold per shipping service

Provide the perk associated with each program after you create the new shipping service, for example, include that members can avail free shipping for orders over $10 USD.

Offer-level shipping [shipping] attribute overrides any account-level shipping services that are configured. However, the offer-level attribute doesn’t override loyalty shipping services at the account level. It only overrides non-loyalty shipping services at the account level.

Note: The loyalty shipping service shows up at offer level only if it’s faster or more affordable than any other non-loyalty services configured.

Optional step: Select offers eligible for the shipping benefit

Use the shipping label [shipping_label] attribute to select offers eligible for the shipping benefit. In case all offers in your loyalty program aren’t eligible for the shipping benefit, use the shipping label [shipping_label] attribute only for the applicable offers in your loyalty program.

Example

  • Offer A is eligible for loyalty shipping benefits.

[shipping_label] = “loyalty”

  • Offer B isn’t eligible for loyalty shipping benefits.

[shipping_label] = “”

If you’re already using the shipping label [shipping_label] attribute for non-loyalty programs, you need to redefine shipping labels as only one shipping label is permitted per offer. This means that you need to delete the old labels, and create new ones so that Google correctly identifies the overlaps in shipping services.

Example

If the existing shipping service relies on the shipping label [shipping_label] = “1P_parcel,” but some of those “1P_parcel” tagged offers are also eligible for loyalty shipping benefit, then divide the offers into 2 categories or shipping labels [shipping_labels]:

  • 1P_parcel
  • 1P_parcel_loyalty

Add these 2 shipping labels to the original shipping service, and add the “1P_parcel_loyalty” shipping label only to the loyalty shipping service.

Pause your shipping service

You can disable the shipping service anytime by hovering over the drop down menu beside the shipping service, and selecting “Pause”. Switch back to “Enable” to unpause.
