How to fix: Same identifier but differing value

Submit the same value for all products with the same identifier, or update the unique product identifier

Two or more of your products share the same unique product identifier, but have other conflicting attributes. For example, two products for which the same GTIN value is submitted may have different values submitted for the brand [brand] attribute. As a result, there is inconsistency in the submitted product data.

To fix this issue, provide the correct identifier and consistent attributes for products with the same identifier, if there are variations of the attribute.

Instructions

Step 1: See the affected products

  1. Sign in to your Merchant Center account.
  2. Select Products from the navigation panel.
  3. On the Diagnostics page, click the Item Issues tab to see the current issues affecting your products.
  4. Click the filter icon Filter to filter by destination and select Buy on Google.
To download a list (.csv) of all affected products for all issues:
  • Click the download button A picture of the download icon for Google Ads and Merchant Center to the right of the filter button Filter , beneath the graph and above the list of issues.
To download a list (.csv) of all affected products for a particular issue:
  • Find the issue under the “Issue” column, then click the download button A picture of the download icon for Google Ads and Merchant Center in the right-hand column.
To see a list of up to 50 products with this particular issue:
  • Find the issue under the “Issue” column, then click View examples in the “Affected items” column.

Step 2: Provide the correct identifier and consistent attributes

  1. Filter the downloaded report so that you only see products with:
    “Issue title” = Same identifier but differing value
  2. Search your product data for those products (using the ID), and make sure to provide the correct identifier and consistent attributes for any products with the same identifier, if there are variations of the attribute.

Step 3: Resubmit your product data

  1. After you’ve updated your product data, resubmit it using one of these methods:
  2. Next, check that you’ve fixed the issue by making sure it’s no longer listed on the Diagnostics page.

    Keep in mind: It may take some time for your change to be reflected on the Diagnostics page.
