View or change your storage

You can use Google One storage space on Google Drive, Gmail and Google Photos. See whether Google One is available for your account and how much it costs.

Find your storage space

  1. On your computer, go to Google One.
  2. On the left, click Storage.
  3. To view the storage used by each family member, next to 'Family', click the down arrow Down arrow.

Update your Google One membership

You can select a storage plan with more or less storage space than you currently have. You can also switch your storage plan to a monthly or annual subscription.

Change your Google One plan

To switch to a different Google One plan:

  1. On your computer, go to Google One.
  2. On the left, click settings Settingsand then Change storage plan.
  3. Select a downgrade plan:
    • To add more storage space, choose a plan under 'Upgrade options'.
    • To pay for less storage space, choose a plan under 'Downgrade options'.

      Tip: If you don't find a downgrade option, you're already on the lowest plan.

  4. Confirm the new plan pricing and payment date. Then, click Continue.
  5. Select your payment method and click Subscribe.

Switch your payments to monthly or annually

Google One members can choose either a monthly or annual subscription on the Google One website. Annual plans normally cost less overall.

Choose a payment plan

  1. On your computer, go to one.google.com.
  2. On the left, click settings Settingsand then Change storage plan.
  3. Based on your current plan, choose an option:
    • Your current plan is monthly: Click Change to annual plan.
    • Your current plan is annual: Click Change to monthly plan.
  4. Review and confirm the new plan pricing and details, then click Continue.
  5. Review your payment method and click Subscribe.

Members can also switch to monthly or annual plans while they upgrade or downgrade a plan.

Stop paying for storage and cancel Google One

If you don't want to pay for extra storage anymore, you can end your Google One plan.

  1. On your computer, go to Google One.
  2. On the left, click settings Settingsand then Cancel membership.
  3. To confirm, click Cancel membership.

You should get a confirmation that your subscription has been cancelled.

Get help and fix issues with storage

Your family members are currently using a lot of your shared storage

By default, family members can use as much of the available storage as they want. If someone is using too much storage, ask them to clear some of ittheir storage.

If you don't want to share your storage with your family, learn how to stop sharing Google One.

Your storage space didn't change after you upgraded

It may take up to 24 hours for your new storage to become available. Check again in a day to see if your storage space has updated.
Available storage didn't go up as much as expected

If you change your storage limit, it can take up to 24 hours for the changes to apply to your account.

A Google One membership will replace your current paid storage plan. The storage from your Google One membership will become your new storage limit. It isn't added on top of your existing paid storage.

If you received storage as part of a promotion, you'll keep the extra storage.

Available storage didn't increase after deleting files

Not all files count against your storage space. For example, emails in your Gmail's bin folder don't take up storage but files in your Drive's bin do.

You can’t send or receive emails after the upgrade

If you change your storage limit, it can take up to 24 hours for your new storage limit to apply to your account. During this time, messages sent or received via Gmail may be affected. Try these troubleshooting steps.
  1. Sign out of your Google Account, then sign back in.
  2. Send a test email to yourself.
  3. If that doesn’t work:
    • Open an incognito window and log in to your Gmail account there. Then try to send an email.
    • Use a different browser like Internet Explorer or Firefox to open your Google Account. Try to send an email.

If you still can’t send messages, wait 24 hours and try again.

What happens if you run out of space

All your files will stay safe, but you won't be able to store anything new. For example:

  • Google Drive: You won't be able to sync or upload new files. Syncing between your computer's Google Drive folder and My Drive will stop. You can still create Google documents because they don't take up any storage space.
  • Google Photos: If you store photos in original quality and run out of storage space, you can buy more storage, back up in high quality (lower resolution) or turn off back up.
  • Gmail: You won't be able to send or receive messages.
