Important: If you sign into the Nest app with a Google Account, use the Home app to manage home members who share access to your Nest products. Keep in mind that only home members who also sign in with a Google Account will be able to see your Nest products in the Nest app.
You can use the Nest app to add more Nest products to your home, and create another home and add products to it. You can also move products to a new home, or between rooms in a home.
Home and product basics
- You can have multiple homes in the Nest app. For instance, you can add a vacation home as a second home and your business as a third home.
- The maximum number of homes you can have in the Nest app depends on what account you use to sign in.
- If you sign in with a Google Account, you can have up to five homes in your account.
- If you sign in with a Nest account, you can have up to three homes.
- You can be the Owner of one or all homes in the app (such as your main residence and a vacation home).
- You can be invited to access one or all homes in the app. When you accept an invitation from someone to access their Nest home, that home will automatically be added to the app.
- Don’t assign Nest products to the same home in the app if they’re physically installed in different homes. This can cause problems with Home/Away Assist, which depends on your products being able to sense whether someone’s home.
- If you need access to more than the total number of homes allowed in an account, you’ll need to sign into the Nest app with a different email address. You can sign in with as many different email addresses as you like. You can then create or accept invitations for up to three homes for each email address.
- You’ll manage some products in the Nest app, and other products in the Google Home app.
- Use the Home app to manage home members if you use a Google Account to manage your products and homes.

How to move a Nest product to another home
If you have another home, you can move your Nest products between them. When you physically move them to their new home, you’ll also need to move them in the app.
The steps are different for each product. Select the one you’re moving below.
Nest thermostat
In Europe:
- Make sure that the system in your new home is compatible.
- Reset your thermostat to defaults.
- Remove your thermostat from the Nest app.
- Because Heat Link is connected to high voltage wires, you should contact a local pro to uninstall your thermostat and re-install it in the other home.
- Add your Nest thermostat back to the Nest app in the other home. Make sure you select the new home in the app before you re-add your thermostat.
Everywhere else:
- Make sure that the system in your new home is compatible.
- Reset your thermostat to defaults. This is necessary because your thermostat will need to learn about your new home’s system and how quickly the home heats or cools.
- Remove your thermostat from the Nest app.
- Uninstall your thermostat.
- Re-install and set it up in the new home. Make sure you select the new home in the app before you re-add your thermostat.
If you prefer, you can contact a local pro to re-install your thermostat for you.

- Uninstall it.
- Install it in its new home
- Select the new home in the Nest app.

You must do a few extra things. This is because subscriptions are not only attached to your camera, they’re also attached to the home it’s in.
- Create clips or timelapses of any footage you want to save from your camera.
Important: The next step will delete your camera’s video history and settings so you must do this beforehand to preserve any memories you want to keep. - Cancel the Nest Aware subscription for the camera. This step will delete your camera’s video history and settings.
- Remove the camera from the Nest app and uninstall it.
- Install your camera in its new home.
- Set up your camera again with the Nest app. Make sure you select the camera’s new home in the app before you begin setup.
- Purchase a new subscription for your camera. Keep in mind that the first Nest Aware subscription for each home is full price, and only additional subscriptions in the same home receive a discount. So you won’t receive a discount if there’s only one camera in each of your homes.
Important: If you purchased a pre-owned Nest camera and you receive a message that it's already in use by another account, see the following article for detailed instructions:
What to do if your camera is already connected to another account

If you’re moving to a new home and leaving a Nest product behind for the new homeowners, simply remove the product from the Nest app and reset it to factory defaults.
