Fix Display ads that aren't serving

Sometimes, your Display ads may not be serving, or the campaign or ad group within your Display campaign may not be receiving any impressions. This article explains some common reasons for these issues.

Check your account billing setup

You may have billing issues that are impacting the account. The billing is set up at the account level. A campaign won’t serve if it isn’t set up and active.

How to check your billing setup

  1. Sign in to your Google Ads account.
  2. Click the tools icon in the top-right corner.
  3. Under "Setup," click Billing & payments.
  4. Click Transactions in the left navigation pane, and then check the following for each transaction:
    • A budget order exists: This is an order line so we know what to charge the client.
    • Start date: Must be in the past or today.
    • End date: Must be today or in the future.
    • Status: Must be active.
    • Budget: Spend must be below 100%.

How to check your billing setup if you're on automatic payments

  1. Sign in to your Google Ads account.
  2. Click the tools icon in the top-right corner.
  3. Under "Setup," click Billing & payments.
  4. Click Payment methods in the left navigation pane.
  5. Look up the credit card that’s available in the account.
  6. In the "Transaction history," see how much credit is left to spend for the account.

If there’s no credit card available, then there’s no credit left to spend. If the credit card is declined, then this is why the ads aren’t serving.

Check for approved and enabled ads in an ad group

Make sure that there are approved and enabled ads in your ad group. If there are landing page violations, your ads will be automatically disapproved.

How to check ads in an ad group

  1. Sign in to your Google Ads account.
  2. In the navigation panel, click Display campaigns.
  3. From the page menu, click Campaigns.
  4. Check each of your Display campaigns and make sure it's enabled in the "Status" column.
  5. From the page menu, click Ad groups.
  6. Check each ad group and make sure it’s enabled, too.
