This article is for teachers.
You can use add-ons within Classroom to share engaging activities and content with your class. Add-ons can be attached to assignments, quiz assignments, questions, materials, or announcements.
You can choose from any add-ons your admin has installed. You can also install add-ons yourself if your admin has allowlisted the add-on for you to install.
If you're looking to find more add-ons, contact your admin.
What you need to use add-ons in Classroom
- You must be using Google Workspace for Education Plus or the Teaching and Learning upgrade.
- You must install the third-party Classroom add-on in your account. You may need to contact your administrator to install the add-on. Learn more about admin permissions for Classroom add-ons.
- Add-ons can only be created and assigned on the web version of Classroom.
- Add-ons can be viewed, completed, and graded on both the web and mobile versions of Classroom
- Go to classroom.google.com.
- Click the class
Classwork.
- At the top, click Create and choose what you want to create.
- Enter the title and instructions.
- Under Add-ons, choose the add-on you want to use.
- Update the rest of the settings.
- Click Assign.
- Go to classroom.google.com.
- Click the class.
- On the Stream page, click Announce something to your class.
- Enter your announcement.
- Under Add-ons, choose the add-on you want to use.
- Click Post.
If your admin has allowlisted an add-on, you can install it yourself:
From Classroom:
- Go to classroom.google.com.
- Click the class
Classwork.
- At the top, click Create
Assignment.
- Enter the title, instructions, and any other necessary information.
- Click Explore add-ons.
From a browser:
- Go to Google Workspace Marketplace.
- At the top, select the “Works with” filter.
- Check the box next to Classroom.
- Click Done. Available Classroom add-ons are displayed.
- Click the add-on you want to install
Install.
With third-party providers, you can create add-on attachments on their website or application. A new assignment is created with the selected content attached as an add-on if the provider supports the functionality.
Important: Add-on attachments can't be created with the Share to Classroom button.
FAQs
My add-on isn’t working. What could be wrong?If your add-on isn't working, it's possible that a pop-up blocker may have caused the issue. You can report the issue and check with your IT administrator to help investigate it.
Make sure you meet requirements for using Classroom add-ons. Learn what you need to use add-ons in Classroom.
If you meet the requirements and still cannot create add-ons from a third-party site or application:
- The third-party add-on may not support creation of add-on attachments from their site.
- The third-party add-on may need troubleshooting by the third-party creators. Reach out to the third-party provider directly to troubleshoot any assignment creation issues or to request support for add-on attachment creation from their site.
