Create a test page for Ad Exchange tags

If your Ad Exchange tag isn't rendering correctly on your website or showing blank ads, you can create a test page to help identify the problem. The test page can show you whether the creative renders properly when it's independent of the other code on your website. The page can also help identify whether there is an issue with the domain you are trying to serve ads on, e.g., Ad Exchange is not serving on clientpageA.com, but the same tag is serving on clientpageB.com.

The steps described may vary depending on your particular environment. If you have questions about how to complete this process at your organization, please reach out to your web developer or IT team.

To create a test page:

  1. Open a plain-text editor (such as Notepad) and place the following code in a blank file:
    <html>
    <head>

    </head>
    <body>

    </body>
    </html>
     
  2. Copy and paste your Ad Exchange code into your text editor in between the <body> and </body> tags.
  3. Add the google_adtest parameter to your ad tag to specify that this is a test implementation:

    'google_adtest = on'

    You must set this parameter to "on" on test pages to ensure that clicks and impressions aren't recorded and advertisers aren't charged. If you don't manually set this parameter, it defaults to "off."
  4. Save the code as an HTML file.
  5. Upload the HTML file to the web server that hosts your web content. This step is largely dependent on your web host configuration, so your web developer or IT team should be able to help you if you have questions about how to complete it. Alternatively, if you cannot upload the page to a web server, you can save it locally.
  6. Using multiple web browsers (for example, Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Internet Explorer) and operating systems, visit the URL (or file location) for your test page and ensure that the ad tag functions. 
If you use Network Partner Management, the URL you are testing should be classified as “Owned” or “Represented” in your Domain Management section, otherwise your ad requests will be rejected.
