Set up paid Cloud Identity service

Applies to Cloud Identity Premium only

To use Cloud Identity Premium beyond your free trial period, set up billing for your subscription and start making payments. If you added your billing information during the sign-up process, you don’t need to do anything. Your paid subscription automatically begins when your trial ends.

Set up billing early during your free trial—We won’t charge you until your trial is over, and your service will continue uninterrupted after your trial ends. If you decide not to use Cloud Identity Premium after all, you can cancel your subscription during your trial without making any payments.

Step 1: Start billing setup

  1. Sign in to your Google Admin console.

Sign in using an account with super administrator privileges (does not end in @gmail.com).

  2. In the Admin console, go to Menu and then Billingand thenSubscriptions.
  3. At the top, click Start Paid Service or Set Up Billing.
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions to set up Cloud Identity Premium billing.

Flexible Plan—You’re billed monthly for each user account. You can add and remove users at any time and pay only for accounts used that month. You can cancel service at any time to stop all payments. Learn more about the Flexible Plan.

Annual Plan—You commit to paying for the number of licenses you need. You can purchase more licenses any time. However, you can't reduce licenses and lower your monthly payments until it's time to renew your annual contract. Learn more about the Annual Plan.

Account type (can't change later)

Specify whether your Cloud Identity Premium service is for individual or business use.

Important: Choose carefully: You can’t change your Business or Individual setting after you complete and exit billing setup.

Tax status

If you select the Business account option, you have the business tax status by default.

If you select the Individual account option, select your tax status: registered or unregistered. A registered tax status means that you have a value-added tax (VAT) ID number that you want to enter. If you don’t have a VAT ID, or you don’t want to enter it, select the unregistered tax status.

For both the Business and Registered individual options, entering your VAT ID ensures that Google charges you the correct tax for your services. If you don’t enter a VAT ID, your account charges might increase.

Can I switch payment plans later?

Annual/Fixed-Term to Flexible Plan

You can switch from the Annual/Fixed-Term to the Flexible Plan:

  • During your free trial
  • When it’s time to renew your subscription

Flexible to Annual/Fixed-Term Plan

You can switch from the Flexible Plan to the Annual/Fixed-Term Plan anytime in the Admin console. When you switch, you must make an annual upfront payment.

For details, go to Manage your payment plans & renewals.

When do automatic payments occur?
  • Google Workspace, Essentials, and Cloud Identity Premium—After your free trial ends and your paid subscription starts, we charge your payment method at the beginning of the following month. If your paid service starts in May, for example, we charge you at the beginning of June. After that, charges continue automatically at the beginning of each month.
  • Domain registration—We start charging your payment method at the time of purchase. If you set up your domain for automatic renewal, we renew your domain 7 days before the annual renewal date and charge your payment method at the beginning of the following month.

How long until my bank account can be debited?

Before we can debit your new bank account, we need to verify that it’s yours. How long this takes depends on your location. If you’re in:

  • The U.K.—It takes about 2 days for us to verify your account. No action is required on your part.
  • The U.S. and Europe, outside the U.K.—You must verify the account before we can begin payments. You can do this by making a test deposit. This process can take up to 10 days, but it often happens much sooner. Go to Verify bank account with test deposit.
You can tell whether Google is still verifying your bank account if a Verification in progress or Mandate pending message appears on your Payments page. If you're setting up billing for the first time, your paid service won't begin until we verify your account.
Can I pay in advance?
Yes. You can pay ahead for your subscription instead of making monthly payments by adding credit to your account. For details, see Make a manual payment or pay early.
