Using Chromecast with Chrome

To cast from Chrome, you must have the Google Cast Extension installed on your Chrome Browser. Learn how to install the Cast Extension here.

A few simple steps are required in order to be able to use your Chromecast device from computers running Chrome. Once complete, these steps will enable you to play video on your TV from Google Cast Ready sites like youtube.com and netflix.com, and also enables you to cast your browser tab!

To cast from Chrome, follow these steps:

  • Ensure that you're running Chrome 28 or higher.  If you're not already running Chrome, download Chrome at www.google.com/chrome. If you are, Chrome updates automatically, so no action should be required. If you're having trouble getting Chrome updates, please refer to www.support.google.com/chrome/answer/95414.

  • Install the Cast extension. If you set up your Chromecast using the setup application on this computer, it may already be installed, in which case you will see a Cast icon in the Chrome toolbar (near the top right). If you don't have the extension, follow the steps here.

  • If you plan to cast a tab to your Chromecast to watch video on TV, review the Minimum System Requirements to ensure that your computer and network are capable of supporting this.
