Fix sign-in problems

If you can't sign in to your Chromebook with your Google Account, try the steps below.

Fix email or password problems

Choose the error message that appears:

“Couldn't find your Google Account"

Important:

  • Make sure you enter the correct username and password for your Google Account.
  • Make sure your Chromebook is connected to the internet, with a strong connection.
  • If you don't use an @gmail.com email address, enter your full email address as the username. For example, somebody@example.com.

If you forgot your username or password, you can recover your account info. You need to know:

  • A phone number or the recovery email address for the account.
  • The full name on your account.

To recover your account:

  1. Go to accounts.google.com/signin/recovery.
  2. Follow the instructions to confirm it's your account.
  3. Review a list of usernames that match your account.
“Forgot your password”
  1. Go to accounts/google.com/signin/recovery.
  2. Reset your password when prompted. Choose a strong password you haven't already used with this account. Learn how to create a strong password.
Tip: If you recently changed your password, try to sign in with your old password.
"Your username or password cannot be verified on this current network"
This message means that your Chromebook doesn't have a strong Wi-Fi connection. Try these options:
"Your account may have been deleted or disabled"
You'll need to use another account to sign in to your Chromebook. Learn why your account may have been disabled.

Get permission to sign in

If you get the error message, "Sorry, you don't have permission to sign in," ask the owner of the Chromebook to give you permission to sign in. Or, you can browse as a guest.

If you use your Chromebook at work or school, ask your administrator to give you permission to sign in.

Tip: Learn how to find the owner of a Chromebook.

Activate your network

If you get the error message "Before signing in, please start a Guest session to activate the network," try to connect to a Wi-Fi network before you can sign in:

  1. If you haven't already, sign out of your Chromebook.
  2. On the sign-in screen, select Browse as Guest.
  3. To connect to a network, follow the steps on the screen.

If the error message appears again, try to connect to a different network.
