Over the years, we’ve made it even easier to accomplish your tasks with Assistant — thanks, in large part, to your feedback. And in order to keep improving your experience, we’re making a few changes to focus on quality and reliability, ultimately making it easier to use Assistant across devices.
As we continue to make Google Assistant more helpful, we're prioritizing the experiences you love and investing in the underlying technology to make them even better — which means that some underutilized features will no longer be supported.
When we make changes, if you trigger a feature that’s going away, you may get a notification that the feature won’t be available after a certain date. Some features affected include the ability to:
- Favorite, share, and ask where and when your photos were taken with your voice. You can still favorite and share your photos in the Google Photos app and see where and when your photos were taken on your Smart Display and tablet.
- Change photo frame settings or ambient screen settings with your voice. You can still change your photo frame settings in your Smart Display settings.
- Translate your live conversation with someone who doesn’t speak your language with interpreter mode. Translating a single word or phrase from one language to another will still work. Learn about interpreter mode.
- Get birthday reminder notifications as part of Routines. You can still ask your Assistant to set a reminder about birthdays you care about.
- Ask to schedule or hear previously scheduled Family Bell announcements. Learn how to create a Routine.
- Get daily updates from your Assistant, like “send me the weather everyday.” You can schedule updates when you create a custom Routine. Learn how to create a Routine.
- Use Google Assistant on car accessories that have a Bluetooth connection or AUX plug.
- Set or use media alarms, music alarms, or radio alarms on Google Assistant enabled devices. You can create a custom Routine that has similar behavior or use a standard alarm.
- Access or manage your cookbook, transfer recipes from device to device, play an instructional recipe video, or show step-by-step recipes. You can use Google Assistant to search for recipes across the web and YouTube.
- Manage a stopwatch on Smart Displays and Speakers. You can still set timers and alarms.
- Use your voice to call a device or broadcast a message to your Google Family Group. You can still broadcast to devices in your home. Learn how to broadcast a message.
- Use your voice to send an email, video or audio message. You can still make calls and send text messages.
- Reschedule an event in Google Calendar with your voice. You can still schedule a new event.
- Use App Launcher in Google Assistant driving mode on Google Maps to read and send messages, make calls, and control media. You can still use voice control on Google Maps the same way. Learn about App Launcher.
- Ask to meditate with Calm. You can still ask for meditation options with media providers such as YouTube.
- Voice control for activities will no longer be available on Fitbit Sense and Versa 3 devices. You'll need to use the buttons on your device to start, stop, pause, and resume activities. You can still voice control activities on Pixel Watches.
- Sleep summaries are only available on Google Smart Displays. You can still ask for sleep details by voice on third-party smart clocks. Learn how to create a Routine.
- Calls made from speakers and Smart Displays won't show up with a caller ID unless you’re using Duo.
- View the ambient “Commute to Work” time estimates on Smart Displays. You can still ask for commute times and get directions by voice.
- Check personal travel itineraries by voice. You can still ask for flight status.
- Ask for information about your contacts. You can still make calls to your contacts.
- Ask to take certain actions by voice, such as send a payment, make a reservation, or post to social media. You can still ask Assistant to open your installed apps.
