Complete advertiser identity verification

If you are selected to undergo advertiser identity verification, you will receive an email and an in-account notification with instructions. Do not apply for advertiser identity verification for Google Ads accounts that we haven't requested.

If you intend to run election ads you must complete election ads verification instead. Accounts that have only completed advertiser identity verification won't be able to run election ads.

The steps required to complete advertiser identity verification for certain Google Ads accounts may differ, depending on your account and structure, your billing setup and whether you're advertising on behalf of an organisation or individual. Learn more about advertiser identity verification.

Please select one of the following for detailed instructions. You can check your payments setup here.

I am an advertiser, representing myself or my organisation
My Google Ads account is set up with automatic/manual payments

Important

  • You only need to complete advertiser identity verification for the Google Ads accounts listed in the notification email requesting that you start the advertiser identity verification programme.
  • If you're required to submit identity documents, this must be completed by the admin on the payments profile.
  • You will have 30 days to submit documentation for verification. If you don't submit documentation within this time frame, your account will be paused. For more information, see Advertiser identity verification and ad disclosures FAQ.

The email notification and in-account notification that you receive will detail the steps that you must complete to verify your identity for each Google Ads account:

If you're promoting an organisation:

  1. Your 'Account type' in your Google Ads payments profile must be 'Business' before submitting your information.

Note: You can check your 'Account type' in your Google Ads’ payments profile via the 'Settings' page for 'Billing & payments'. If your 'Account type' is 'Individual', but you need to verify as a business, or vice versa, please contact us before starting the verification programme.

  2. You will be asked to submit registration documents that include your organisation’s legal name and country. Accepted documents are listed here. This name and country will be displayed in the disclosure on any ads you run.

Note: The name and country on the payments profile must match your name and country on any documents that you submit. If the name doesn’t match, please make sure that you edit it in your Google Ads account. You can edit your payments profile name once the verification process is started by clicking on the 'pencil icon' next to your business name to make the change.

If your organisation is registered in Russia or Ukraine, you’ll need to contact us to request a business name update. Learn more

  3. An authorised representative for the organisation must submit identity documents. Accepted documents are listed here.

If you are promoting yourself as an individual:

  1. You must verify your identity. The 'Account type' in your Google Ads payments profile must be 'Individual' before submitting your information.

Note: You can check your 'Account type' in your Google Ads’ payments profile via the 'Settings' page for 'Billing & payments'. If your 'Account type' is 'Individual', but you need to verify as a business, or vice versa, please contact us before starting verification.

  2. Individuals must submit identity documents. Your payments profile name must match your identity document. Acceptable documents by country are listed here. The name and country on your identity documents will be displayed in the disclosure on any ads that you run. Learn more.

Google will review your application and send you an email notification about your advertiser identity verification status within 3–5 working days. You can check your verification status in ‘Settings’ under ‘Billing & Payments’ in your Google Ads account.

Important

  • You only need to complete advertiser identity verification for the Google Ads accounts listed in the notification email requesting that you start the advertiser identity verification programme.
  • You'll have 30 days to approve the use of your legal name and country. If you don't complete the verification within this time frame, your account will be paused. For more information, see Advertiser identity verification and ad disclosures FAQ.

As your information has already been verified during the credit line creation process, you're not required to submit any additional information or documentation.

I am an agency, advertising on behalf of an organisation or individual
The agency I represent owns the payments profile associated with the Google Ads account

Important

  • In your Google Ads account, you must click on 'I run ads for someone else' to verify your client’s name. Do not click on 'Get started'.
  • If you pay for Google Ads accounts for multiple organisations or individuals, you'll need to complete verification step 1 separately for each identified account. You only need to complete advertiser identity verification for the accounts listed in the notification email requesting that you start the verification programme.
  • You must be an authorised representative to complete verification on behalf of an organisation or individual.
  • If you're required to submit identity documents, this must be completed by the admin on the payments profile.
  • You will have 30 days to submit documentation for verification, and 30 days to complete the programme. If you don't submit documentation within this time frame, your account will be paused. Learn more.

Google may verify your identity through a two-step process. Step 1 will collect information about your client. Step 2 will collect information about you as an agency.

Step 1: Complete the form, submitting all requested information and documentation on behalf of the advertiser that you represent

  1. If you represent an organisation or business, the 'Account type' in your Google Ads’ payment profile must be 'Business' before submitting your information. If you represent an individual, your 'Account Type' must be 'Individual'.

Note: You can check your 'Account type' in your Google Ads’ payments profile via the 'Settings' page for 'Billing & payments'. If your 'Account type' is 'Individual', but you need to verify as a business, or vice versa, please contact us before starting verification.

To be verified as an organisation, the 'Account type' in your payments profile must already be set as 'Business'. To be verified as an individual, the 'Account type' in your payments profile must already be set as 'Individual'. Learn more.

If the 'Account type' selected in this form doesn’t match the account type in your Google Ads account, verification will be rejected.

  2. The country selected must be where the advertiser that you represent is registered, and match the documentation that you submit. This country will be displayed in the disclosure on any ads the advertiser runs. Learn more.
  3. The name submitted as the advertiser name must be the advertiser that you're representing, not the name of your agency and must match their legal documents. This name will be displayed in the disclosure on any ads run from the Google Ads account.
  4. The registration documents submitted must note the name and country of the advertiser that you represent. Acceptable documents by country are listed here
  5. Google will review your application and send you an email notification about your step 1 verification status within 3-5 working days.

Once step 1 is successfully completed, you may be asked to complete step 2 via an email and an in-account notification (in a red bar at the top of your Google Ads account).

Step 2: Complete the in-account identity check, submitting all requested information and documentation, including ID, for the authorisedrepresentative, and for your agency

Note: Step 2 verifies the information on the payments profile linked to the Google Ads account. The name on the payments profile must match your agency name and any documents that you submit.

Learn more

This step is only required once for each payments profile (unless you're on monthly invoicing) and must be completed by the payments profile admin.

  1. Submit registration documents for your agency. Acceptable documents by country are listed here
  2. Authorised representatives must submit a government-issued photo ID. Acceptable documents by country are listed here.
  3. Google will review your application and send you an email notification about your step 2 verification status within 3-5 working days. You can check your verification status in ‘Settings’ under ‘Billing & Payments’ in your Google Ads account.
