Content eligible for YouTube Music

The YouTube Music app can help you grow your audience by making your content more discoverable to music lovers. Enabling audio-only usage on your music videos will make them eligible for the YouTube Music app but does not guarantee inclusion.

When it's marked as music content, users can easily discover it in not only in the YouTube Music app, but also in the main YouTube app. Learn more about your content in the YouTube Music app.

Opt in your music content to the YouTube Music app

Opting a video into the YouTube Music app turns on audio-only access for the video. This means that YouTube Music users who have a YouTube Premium membership can use audio mode to listen to music without loading the video.

To opt in, all you need to do is check the Enable this video for audio-only use in YouTube Music box in a video's Advanced Settings. If the video is eligible musical content, it will be available in the YouTube Music app.

You can find the setting to opt in or out with these steps:

  1. Log in to your YouTube account.
  2. In the top right, select your account > Creator Studio.
  3. In the left menu, click Video Manager > Videos.
  4. Next to the eligible video, click the Edit drop-down arrow and select Info and Settings.
  5. Under the video preview, select the Advanced Settings tab.
  6. Under "YouTube Music," check or uncheck the box next to Enable this video for audio-only use in YouTube Music.

Content eligible for the YouTube Music app

To have your music included in the YouTube Music app, it has to be eligible music content, enabled for audio-only usage, and claimed only by you.

Content owned & claimed by the channel owner

If you have already claimed your video for monetization, then you will be able to set the Enable this video for audio-only use in YouTube Music checkbox.

If the Enable this video for audio-only use in YouTube Music box is already checked, there's nothing more you need to do.

Content that needs to be claimed by the channel owner

If you are not able to check the Enable this video for audio-only use in YouTube Music box to opt in a video, you may need to claim the content in this video first.

Follow these steps to claim a video and opt in to YouTube Music:

  1. Follow these steps to monetize the video.
  2. Use the instructions above to make your eligible content available in the YouTube Music app.

Content that cannot be enabled for the YouTube Music app

If you aren't able to check the Enable this video for audio-only use in YouTube Music box to opt in a video, the video may include content that is claimed by a third party.

Individual videos that contain content that's been claimed by a third-party aren’t currently eligible for audio-only use in YouTube Music.

Videos that aren't considered musical content by YouTube aren't eligible to be included in the YouTube Music app, even if you've chosen to enable them for audio-only use.
