Comment topics

Comment topics use artificial intelligence (AI) to organise and summarise comments on YouTube videos. With this info, you can learn what's of interest to your community, more easily join discussions and get inspiration for new videos.

To review comment topics, go to the comments section of a video on the YouTube mobile app. If available, tap Topics .

Note: This feature won't appear on all videos. At the moment, comment topics are only available on large comment sections in the YouTube mobile app for videos and comments in English.

Topics are summarised by AI and not humans, so quality and accuracy may vary.

FAQ

What can a comment moderator do?

The actions that a comment moderator can take depend on whether they are a standard moderator or a managing moderator. Managing moderators have more options available to them than standard moderators. Both types of moderators can hold comments for your review.
Moderators don't have access to your channel in YouTube Studio. The comment will be held for your review in your 'Held for review' queue. Other viewers won't see the comment unless you approve it.

Comment moderation works differently on live chat. Learn how to assign moderators for live chats.

How do I remove a comment moderator?

You can manage your moderators by following the steps above to add a comment moderator, then select the removal option.

Are viewers told when I heart, like, dislike, pin or reply to their comment?

If you heart, pin or reply to a comment, the commenter may get a notification that you have responded, depending on their notification settings.
Likes and dislikes are anonymous. If you like a comment, the commenter may get a notification that says 'Someone liked your comment'. Viewers don't get a notification when you dislike their comment.

How do I unpin a comment?

If you've pinned a comment to the top of the watch page but don't want it there anymore, you can unpin it. Next to the comment, select More ''. and then Unpin.
You can also pin a different comment, which will unpin the previous one.

What happens when I mark a comment as spam?

The comment will be permanently hidden from your channel. YouTube may also review the comment and commenter's behaviour for spam.

How are comment topics summarised, and can I moderate them?

Comment topics use Google-owned AI models to organise and summarise comments, without human review, on YouTube videos with large comment sections. Topics are only created when there are enough comments to represent a theme.

There isn't an option to opt out of comment topics. If you remove the comments that appear under a specific topic, the topic will be removed.

Topics won't be created from comments that are held for review, contain blocked words or are from hidden users.

To give feedback on comment topics:

  1. Open the comments section of a video on the YouTube app.
  2. Tap Topics .
  3. Tap More ''..
  4. Tap Send feedback.
