Turn off your phone's voicemail

You can send unanswered calls to Google voicemail instead of to your phone's voicemail. If you get voicemail on more than one phone, you can use Google voicemail to check them all at once.

This feature is not available for Voice for G Suite accounts managed by your work or school. Learn more

AT&T customers on Nexus 5X
  1. Contact AT&T Support.
  2. Ask the support representative to set up call forwarding for the following HD Voice settings: Busy, Unanswered, Unreachable. Confirm that they don't set up call forwarding for Always Forward.
  3. Give the representative your Google Voice number to use as the forwarding number.
  4. Before hanging up, check that your voicemails are arriving in your Google Voice inbox:
    • Call your phone and let it ring until it goes to voicemail.
    • Call your phone and reject the call.
    • Turn off your phone and then call it.
Landline phone
Set your landline's voicemail to pick up after 30 seconds. When people call your landline number, they’ll be connected to Google voicemail instead of the landline's voicemail.

Help make voicemail transcripts more accurate

Voicemail is automatically transcribed by computer programs. You can donate your voicemails to help us improve the programs. Your account information won't be attached to your voicemails, and no one will listen to them because they're analyzed by machines.

  1. On your computer, go to voice.google.com.
  2. At the top right, click Settings Settings.
  3. On the left, click Voicemail.
  4. Turn on Let Google analyze voicemail transcripts.

You can turn this option off any time, and we'll stop using your messages.
