Block calls & messages or mark as spam

​You can stop unwanted calls and messages, and block or mark them as spam. When Google Voice suspects a call might be spam, it displays a warning on the incoming call screen and in your call history. You can then confirm whether or not the call is spam.

Important: If you feel you're in danger, contact your local emergency services.

When you block a number in Google Voice:

  • Calls and messages from that number are marked Blocked .
  • The blocked caller gets a "Number not in service" message when they call.
  • You don’t get messages from that number.

Block someone

  1. Open the Voice app .
  2. Open the tab for Messages Messages tab, Calls Calls tab, or Voicemail Voicemail tab.
  3. Open a message, call, or voicemail from the number you want to block.
  4. Tap More options Moreand then Block number and then Block.
 

Confirm whether or not a call or message is spam

Google Voice automatically displays a warning about a suspected spam call or message. From your call or message history, you can confirm whether or not the call or message is spam.

If you confirm that a call:

  • Is spam, any calls or messages from that number automatically go to the spam folder.
  • Is not spam, the warning is removed from that call. The warning banner won’t appear on any future calls or messages from that number.

To confirm a suspected spam call:

  1. In your call history, tap the call marked as suspected spam.
  2. On the warning banner shown in the call details, select Confirm spam.
    • Tip: If the call is not spam, click Not spam and then Confirm not spam.
  3. On the pop-up that appears, tap Confirm spam.
    • Any calls or messages from this number automatically move to the spam folder.

If you confirm that a message:

  • Is spam, any calls or messages from that number automatically go to the spam folder.
  • Is not spam, the warning is removed from that message. The warning banner won’t appear on any future calls or messages from that number.

To confirm a suspected spam message:

  1. In your message history, tap the message marked as suspected spam.
  2. On the warning banner shown in the message details, select Confirm spam.

     Tip: If the message is not spam, click Not spam and then Confirm not spam.

  3. On the pop-up that appears, tap Confirm spam.  
Unblock someone
  1. Open the Voice app .
  2. Open the tab for Messages Messages tab, Calls Calls tab, or Voicemail Voicemail tab.
  3. Open a message, call, or voicemail from the number you want to unblock.
  4. Tap More options Moreand then Unblock number and then Unblock.  

Mark a group message as spam

  1. Open the Voice app .
  2. Tap Messages Messages tab.
  3. Open the group message you want to mark as spam.
  4. Tap More options More and then Mark as spam.

Unmark a call, message, or group message as spam

  1. Open the Voice app .
  2. In the top left, tap Menu  and then Spam.
  3. Open the message, call, or voicemail.
  4. Tap More options More and then Unmark as spam.

Unwanted calls and messages from unknown numbers

Automatically ignore known spam numbers

If you get a spam call, message, or voicemail, you can automatically move future communication from the number to your Spam folder.
  1. ​Open the Voice app .
  2. In the top left, tap Menu and then Settings.
  3. Under “Security,” turn on Filter spam.

 

Unmark a call, message, group message, or voicemail as spam

If a contact's messages, calls, or voicemail automatically go into your Spam folder, that contact might be marked as spam. You can unmark numbers incorrectly marked as spam to keep future communication from that number out of your Spam folder.
  1. Open the Voice app .
  2. In the top left, tap Menu and then Spam.
  3. Tap a message, call, or voicemail from the contact you want to unmark as spam.
  4. Tap More options More and then Unmark as spam.

 

Stop unwanted calls 

To block unwanted calls, contact your telephone provider.

Stop forwarded calls

If your number was mistakenly linked to someone else's Google Voice account, you might get unwanted calls forwarded to you. To stop these calls, Add the number to a new or existing Google Voice account.
