Add or edit a task

When you create a task, you can:

  • Add details
  • Set a date and time
  • Add subtasks
  • Make it repeat on certain days 

You can create up to 100,000 tasks.

Tips:

  • If you add a date and time to your task, you get notifications at the scheduled dates and times. For tasks without a time, notifications appear at 9:00 AM. Tasks with a date also appear in your Google Calendar app.
  • You can edit, complete, unassign, or delete group tasks assigned to you from your personal task list. If you change group tasks in your personal task list, these tasks are updated or deleted in Google Chat rooms. Learn more about group tasks.

Create a task

  1. Open the Google Tasks app Tasks.
  2. Tap Add a new task.
  3. Enter a task.
  4. Optional: To add a date and time or repeat a task, tap Add date/time Date/time and then Done.
  5. Tap Save.

Add a task from an email

  1. Open the Gmail app .
  2. In your inbox, find the email you want to save as a task and open it.
  3. At the top right, tap More options More and then Add to Tasks.

Tip: Tasks with subtasks can't repeat.

Add a task from selected text

  1. Highlight a section of text. 
  2. Tap Share and then Tasks.
  3. Optional: To add a date and time or repeat a task, tap Add date/time Date/time and then Done.
  4. Tap Save.

Change a task 

You can change the task name, add details, set a due date, or add subtasks.
  1. Open the Google Tasks app  Tasks.
  2. Tap the task you want to edit. 
  3. Change the task info. 
  4. Tap Back Back.

Tip: If you want to change the date and time of the next repeating task in a series, tap the date. To edit the date and time for all tasks, at the bottom, tap the repetition info.

Mark a task as complete

  1. Open the Google Tasks app  Tasks.

  2. To the left of a task, tap Complete Mark complete.

Delete a task 

  1. Open the Google Tasks app  Tasks.
  2. Tap the task you want to delete.
  3. Tap Delete trash can.

Delete one task in a repeating series

  1. Open the Calendar app Calendar.
  2. Tap the one task you want to delete.
  3. Tap Delete trash can and then This task.

Copy your reminders into tasks

  1. Open the Google Tasks app Tasks.
  2. At the bottom right, tap More options More and then Copy reminders to Tasks.
  3. Choose your options and tap Copy Reminders.
Tip: You can't copy reminders from Keep, or reminders with locations or attached emails.
