Uploading to Poly

How to upload to Poly

You can upload content to Poly via poly.google.com in any of these file formats:

  • .obj
  • .glTF
  • .glb

You can also upload to Poly directly through the Tilt Brush and Blocks apps.

Poly Editor panel options

To upload your assets, use the Upload button at the top of poly.google.com. Find out more about supported file formats.

Details panel

  • Title, Description & Category: Add information for your asset, then select a category.
  • Visibility: Public content can be found and viewed by anyone. Unlisted content can be shared and viewed by anyone with a specific link to its page. Unlisted content isn’t searchable or featured on the homepage, and it won’t be shown on your profile. If you allow remixing, attribution will be shown whenever your content is published on Poly, even if your content is unlisted. Learn about visibility of assets and public profiles.
  • Remixes: If you allow remixing, your content will be published under a CC-BY license. This allows others to use a copy of your work in a new creation. You won't be able to edit or delete this copy. Your attribution will automatically be shown on any remixed content published to Poly

Model panel

  • Transforms: Rotate the angle at which your model is displayed. To rotate, you can also click X, Y, or Z, and drag left or right.
  • Default animation: Set default clip on the watch page.
  • Animations: Set the number of loops and playback speed.

Materials panel

  • Select material: Choose the material. Depending on the model you’re uploading, you may have more or fewer choices of material.
    • Next, define all physically based render (PBR) maps. Poly gives you several maps:
    • Albedo: The base color of the selected material
    • Roughness/Gloss: How reflective or matte a surface appears
    • Metallic: How metallic or dull the selected material appears
    • Ambient occlusion: A texture map that shows the representation of soft shadows
    • Normal map: The addition of bumps and surface details to an asset
  • Transparency: How transparent the model will appear. This won’t affect the transparency of the background.
    • Blended: Uses the alpha of the albedo map as the opacity. If there is no alpha included in the albedo then the opacity slider will affect the entire texture set.
    • Masked: A mask texture used for the opacity of that texture set.
      • Alpha Cutoff: How hard or soft the edge of the uploaded alpha mask is
  • Define faces
    • Single-sided: When viewing one side of a model, the opposite side won’t be visible.
    • Double-sided: When viewing one side of a model, the opposite side will be visible.

Presentation panel

  • Background type: Choose from three background options:
    • Solid color
    • Image: can be uploaded as a .png or .jpg
  • Environment lighting: If applicable, choose 360 environment lighting from one of the 4 predefined environment options. You can customize angle and brightness.
  • Lights: Choose color and intensity of lighting being used. Shadows can also be toggled
  • Motion path: Choose a path for the camera to move while viewing the model, and chosen from one of three options:
    • Full motion: Camera moves fully around the model
    • Side-to-side motion: Camera will move back and forth on a 90 degree angle
    • No motion

Post-processing panel

  • A number of post-processing effects can be added to the model:
    • Film Grain
    • Bloom (intensity, threshold & edge glow)
    • Vignette
    • Color Space: Choose linear or gamma
