  1. If you haven't yet, download the Office file to your device.
  2. In laptop mode: Select the Launcher and then Up arrow
In tablet mode: Go to your Home screen. To get there, go to the bottom left corner of your screen and tap the Launcher
  3. Find your file, and double-click or tap it to open.
  4. Edit your file.

Note: Some features and settings won't work unless you save your file as a Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides file.

Option 2: Edit Office files online

If you have a Microsoft® Office online account, you can edit your files using these Android apps:

You can also save and share Office files directly within the app using Microsoft OneDrive.

Troubleshoot error messages

"Update your document" or "Edits will not be automatically saved"

Follow the prompts to save your file as a newer version of Office (2007 or later).

Note: Any updates made to the new file will not carry over to the original Office file.

"File not supported" or can't open file

Make sure your file is saved as one of these file types: .doc, .docx, .xls, .xlsx, .ppt, .pptx.
