Watch & manage your Memories

Memories are collections of some of your best photos and videos from previous years or recent weeks.

View your Memories

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Photos app Photos.
  2. At the bottom, tap Photos. 
  3. At the top, tap a memory.
    • To move to the next or previous photo, tap or swipe right or left.
    • To skip to the next or previous memory, swipe up or down.
    • To pause on a photo, touch and hold it.
    • To share a memory, on the right, tap Share Share.
Tip: To exit a memory, at the top left, tap Close .

Change your settings

Control which memories you receive 

You can select the types of memories you want to show above your photo grid. When at least one memory type is selected, the Memories carousel appears above the photo grid.
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Photos app Photos.
  2. At the top right, tap your account profile photo or initial and then Photos settings Settings and then Memories.
  3. Tap Featured memories.
  4. Select the types of memories you want to find.

Hide someone

Important: When you hide someone, you won’t get their face in memories, creations, or on your search page.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Photos app Photos.
  2. At the top right, tap your account profile photo or initial and then Photos settings Settings and then Memories.
  3. Tap Hide people & pets.
  4. Choose who you want to hide.
    • To show someone, tap their face again.

Hide a date

Important: When you hide a date, you won’t get photos taken on that date in your new memories.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Photos app Photos.
  2. At the top right, tap your account profile photo or initial and then Photos settings Settings and then Memories.
  3. Tap Hide dates.
  4. Add dates you want to hide.
    • To remove a hidden date, tap Remove Remove.

Control whether your memories contain creations

You can select which types of creations you can find in your memories.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Photos app Photos.
  2. At the top right, tap your account profile photo or initial and then Photos settings Settings and then Memories and then Featured memories.
  3. Tap Creations.
  4. Select which types of creations you want to find in your memories.

Manage your memories notifications

You control what notifications to receive when there is a new memory, or a new creation available.
 
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Photos app Photos.
  2. At the top right, tap your account profile photo or initial and then Photos settings and then Memories
  3. Tap Manage memories notifications.
  4. Under "Memories," turn the option to receive Memories from previous years, themed memories, or creations on or off. 

Learn about creations

You can find creations made for you in your Memories carousel. You may find a collage in “Similar shots” or a “They grow up so fast” movie as a standalone memory. You can also make your own creations such as a collage, animation, or movie.

Check if something was created for you

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Photos app Photos.
  2. At the bottom, tap Photos.
  3. Creations will arrive in your Memories carousel at the top.

Save creations

You can save creations that are made for you like movies or animations.

To save creations from your Memories carousel, at the bottom of the creation, select Save. Saved creations appear in your photos view.

Find creations you saved

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open Google Photos Photos.
    • In the Photos tab, your saved creations appear with other photos and videos.
  2. To search for the creations you saved, at the bottom, tap Search.
  3. At the bottom, in the "Creations" section, tap the type of creation you want, or tap All creations.

Make creations

You can make your own collage, animation, or movie from your photos and videos. 

To make your own creation:

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open Google Photos Photos.
  2. At the bottom, tap Library and then Utilities.
  3. At the bottom, find options to create an Animation, Collage, or Movie.
