Restore deleted photos & videos

You can recover photos and videos that were moved to trash less than 60 days ago if they were backed up to your Google Account. To get them back:

Android app
  1. Open the Google Photos app .
  2. At the top left, touch the menu icon , then select Trash .
  3. Touch and hold the photo or video you want to recover.
  4. At the top right, touch the restore icon . This will put the photo or video back onto your phone, into the "Photos" section of the app, and into any albums it was in.
iOS app
  1. Open the Google Photos app .
  2. At the top left, touch the menu icon , then select Trash .
  3. Touch and hold the photo or video you want to recover.
  4. At the top right, touch the restore icon . That photo or video will be restored to your Google Photos library and added back into any albums it was in.

If you want the local copy of the photo or video back in the iOS Photos app, go to the iOS Photos app's Recently Deleted album to restore local copies.

Computer
  1. Go to photos.google.com.
  2. At the top left, click the menu icon , then select Trash .
  3. Place your cursor over the photo or video you want to restore, then click the checkmark .
  4. At the top right, click the restore icon . That photo or video will be restored to your Google Photos library and added back into any albums it was in.

Don't see the photo or video?

If you don't see the item in your trash, that unfortunately means that it can't be restored. You won't be able to restore it if:

  • You moved it to trash more than 60 days ago
  • You moved it to trash, then emptied your trash
  • You permanently deleted it from your trash
