Set up regions (AU, FR, and US only)

This article explains how to set up regions.

How it works

Regions are used to create custom areas so accurate shipping costs and transit times can be set across multiple shipping services.

Example

If you’re located on the east coast of the United States, you may see higher costs and extended transit times when shipping orders to the west coast. To account for these higher costs and extended transit times, you could set up a specific region for the west coast, and associate a longer transit time and higher shipping rate on deliveries to that region.

You can use regions to create transit time labels, which help you provide more accurate estimated delivery dates for your customers. Learn more about setting up transit time labels

Instructions

Create a new region

Create a new region [regional availability and pricing]

  1. Click the tools icon Tools and setting menu icon [Gear] .
  2. Select Regions under “Tools”.
  3. Click the plus button to create a new region.
  4. Enter values for “Region ID”, “Region name”, and “Country”.
    • This region ID needs to be unique for each region and must be numeric (minimum 6 digits) if you intend to use regional overrieds.
    • The region name helps you identify the geographical area you want to include in your region.
    • Use the drop-down menu beside “Country” to select which country this region will apply to.
  5. Create your region using postal codes/states (depending on the availability for your country).
    • If postal codes are available, enter one code per line in any of the following styles:
      • A postal code (for example, 75008)
      • A range of postal codes (for example, 2000-2500)
      • A range of postal codes using a prefix with a wildcard ( * ) (for example, 94*)
      • A range of postal codes using 2 prefixes with wildcards ( * ), using the same number of digits for both prefixes. (for example, 94*-95*)
    • Otherwise choose the administrative region available for your country. Note this is only available for regional overrides and not for standard shipping settings.
    • Click Add.
  6. Click Save to finish creating the region.

Edit a region

  1. Click the tools icon Tools and setting menu icon [Gear].
  2. Select Regions under “Tools”.
  3. To add or change the region name, click the text in the “Region name” column and edit the “Region name” field.
  4. To edit postal codes:
    • Add new codes just like you did when you created the region, with one range per line. Click Add postal codes.
    • To remove a postal code, click the X next to it or click Clear all to remove all postal codes.
  5. Click Save to finish editing the region.

Before you can remove a region make sure that it is no longer used with any of the available services.

  1. Click the tools icon Tools and setting menu icon [Gear].
  2. Select Regions under “Tools”.
  3. Click the trash icon next to the name of the region in the “Region name” column, and then click Confirm.
