About pickup later

Pickup later allows you to promote your products that can be picked up in-store within a specific Service Level Agreement (SLA), regardless of store availability. Pickup later also allows you to offer multiple fulfillment options to customers and use your stores as a differentiator. Unlike other local inventory ads features, pickup later doesn't require full inventory information.

This article explains how pickup later works and what's required to implement this feature.

Note: Pickup later feature is currently not supported by free local listing and can only be used with local inventory ads.
If you are interested in promoting products that are in-store for immediate pickup, review the requirements for Pickup today.

Eligibility

Pickup later allows you to provide a direct online-to-offline experience for your customers. To be eligible for pickup later, your website must meet the following requirements on desktop, mobile, and tablets devices:

  • Display the option to pickup a product on your landing page or in your checkout flow.
  • Allow customers to select the store where their order will be shipped.
    • Stores can be displayed after clicking on a link (for example, “Check availability”) or by entering a postal code or address.
    • Alternatively, store selection can occur in your checkout flow after a customer has added an item to their cart.
  • Display the item’s price on your product page.
    • Note: The price must match the value of the price [price] attribute in your primary data source. For a more detailed overview of what constitutes a misrepresentation, go through our Misrepresentation policy.
  • Indicate the pickup date and pickup fee (if a pickup fee will be charged).
    • This can be displayed in your checkout flow alongside store selection. For a more detailed overview of what constitutes a misrepresentation, go through our Misrepresentation policy.
  • Provide an option to select other store locations.
    • This may be displayed in your checkout flow alongside store selection.
  • Provide a pickup confirmation message when the order is ready for pickup (for example, an email or a SMS).
  • Customers shouldn't have to enter their payment information before viewing your fulfillment options. For a more detailed overview of what constitutes a misrepresentation, go through our Misrepresentation policy.
  • Allow customers to complete their order (for example, complete the purchase or reserve the item) on your website.

Implementation options

There are 2 options to implement pickup later feature:

Pickup later with product data

Pickup later with product data allows you to promote all your products that can be shipped to your stores for pickup. It allows you to onboard quickly onto local inventory ads since no inventory data source is required. Instead you can append the pickup SLA and pickup method to your existing online product feed.

Note: The pickup method will become optional starting September 1, 2024.

Your website must meet the pickup later requirements mentioned above, and you must be able to identify your store locations that are eligible to fulfill online orders.

Pickup later with in-store inventory data

Pickup later with in-store inventory data allows you to promote your out of stock offers or your online product that can be shipped to your stores alongside your in-store offers.

In addition to the pickup later requirements mentioned above, you must also meet the store-specific product page with in-store availability and price or product page with in-store availability requirements.

Website recommendations

In addition to the website requirements above, we recommend the following:

  • Customers shouldn't be required to create an account before viewing your fulfillment options (for example, you can include a "checkout as guest" option).
  • Customers shouldn't be required to enter their address before viewing your fulfillment options.
