Help getting off of the gmail blacklist, getting a 550-5.7.1

I am receiving bounce messages that state:
Our system has detected that this message is 550-5.7.1 likely suspicious due to the very low reputation of the sending IP 550-5.7.1 address. To best protect our users from spam, the message has been 550-5.7.1 blocked. Please visit 550 5.7.1 https://support.google.com/mail/answer/188131 for more information. e11si580016iok.24 - gsmtp (in reply to end of DATA command)

This happening when sending to all google hosted and gmail accounts. This has been happening for several days now.

One of our users had a compromised device and their account/password was stolen and abused by spammers. The activity was detected and the account deactivated within hours of this. They were able to get out enough spam that our server appeared on two public blacklists for a short time.

I could understand a temporary block for a few hours or a day.... It's been days now. We are not spammers. None of my users are spammers or send any large  amounts of bulk mail. Accounts are rarely compromised and the situation is dealt with swiftly every time.

I noticed immediately gmail / google hosted emails were bouncing. Since a large segment of my customers (and my customers customers) are on google hosted accounts or gmails I filled out the delivery issues form as suggested elsewhere. (That was on Tuesday and it's now Thursday)

I've just tried sending quotes and bills and am still receiving the bounce message. This has to be a problem as it doesn't seem like good practice or realistic to be permanently banned from sending emails to google/gmail.... This is hurting my business, and especially my customers. Many people are emailing me and I have no way of responding. Some of them need urgent help and I don't have an alternate method of reaching them.

It's been a full 7 days now and the emails are still being blocked. This is crazy.

If it still exists at a different address please let me know.

Problem was resolved quickly when it occurred, just waiting for the consequences of that problem to resolve.

For now I'm going to reject that the server has a silly limit like 5 emails per day or per week. There's no way gmail engineers would do that..... I prefer to believe it was a fluke that they let some messages through. I will keep this thread updated on my experience.

In the meantime while working on this I have tightened a lot of our controls. Accounts will be locked out faster now when there is suspicious activity and there is more aggressive filtering on outbound mail. Somehow I don't think it will make a difference in the future when someones credentials are compromised but fingers are crossed.

We don't work for Google;  only volunteers here;  Google only monitor the forum.

We can't do that, and Google will not as well.  They would see it as your responsibility.

UPDATE: It appears our server is no longer blocked as of today. It was 12 days of being totally and completely blocked (except for being able to send 5 emails randomly)

I have no doubt our reputation will build back quickly now that our email is being accepted.

@catzrule Thanks for being supportive and commenting on this thread. I hope the information is helpful to people who come across it with similar issues.

@google Shame on you for the anti-competitive and bizarre strategy for managing spam.... Especially for having absolutely no manual intervention available. While spam is a big problem that needs to be addressed - Enduring 12 days of a total block after years of good communication seems insane to me & it's a failure on your part to give a good user experience. There's a lot of people who didn't receive information or help they wanted/needed because of this.

If it still exists at a different address please let me know.

I'm not entire sure what you were responding to. I was saying if anyone happens to know the updated address for the old mailbox delivery form to let me know. I do realize nobody is under any obligation to answer should they have the information. For reference I was referring to https://support.google.com/mail/contact/msgdelivery

I did look for the form on my own without any luck. I believe they may have scrapped it altogether.

Still waiting to find out where that link went to;  in the meanwhile found this helpful article https://www.rackaid.com/blog/gmail-blacklist-removal/  (hope not duplicated in my previous advice).

We just updated our guide to this issue.   Gmail now seems to be more picket about changes in volume as well as DNS records.  Make sure your DMARC, SPF, DKIM, PTR records are in order.

Also, we suspect Gmail is taking more signals form URLs in emails not originating from your server.   We recently had a case where if a specific URL was put in the email, we received a hard 550 block error.   If we left the URL out, the email went through.   So if you are including URLs in your emails, even in the footer, consider removing them for testing purposes.

Our guide is here:

Hi Jon

One of my domains in the same situation as yours was. I hope you do not mind me asking. Could you confirm what you have done to fix the problem? We have authentication and several other suggestions implemented but still struggling to get emails to Gmail users even if in contacts (indeed I read before about white-listing not working).
- Have you taken any specific actions?
- Have you opened any complaint as you mentioned above CRTC and Federal MP?
