Use Safety Signal on Google Pixel Watch 2

What is Safety Signal?

Safety Signal1 is a Fitbit Premium2 subscription service that provides LTE connectivity from Google to use safety features.

When you are away from your phone and you don't have a carrier plan on your Watch, Safety Signal connectivity allows you to use safety features in an emergency.

You will not have access to Safety Signal when you already have carrier services on your Watch as your carrier service provides the connection to emergency calling you need while you are away from your phone.

Safety Signal provides connectivity to give you access to the following safety features on your Watch:

  • Calls to and from emergency contacts
  • Safety Check3
  • Emergency Sharing4
  • Emergency SOS5
  • Fall Detection6

Requirements for using Safety Signal

Is Safety Signal available in my region?

Safety Signal is only available in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, and Germany.

Roaming is available between:

  • the US and Canada
  • the UK and Germany

What do I need to use Safety Signal?

  • Google Pixel Watch 2 4G LTE (you don't need a carrier plan but you do need the LTE Watch version)
  • Fitbit Premium subscription
  • Note: Safety Signal is not available on any new Google Pixel Watch 2 purchased from AT&T or Verizon, or a Google Pixel Watch 2 that was previously purchased from these carriers that has not activated the feature.

Note: Family Link will work with Google Pixel Watch, but at the moment Child Accounts under a Fitbit family account are not supported. For kids, we recommend the Fitbit Ace 3 activity tracker.

Do I need the Google Personal Safety App?

While not required, it is recommended that you download the Google Personal Safety app on your phone to help with managing your emergency contacts and other safety features.

Sign up for Safety Signal

  1. On your phone, open the Google Pixel Watch app Google Pixel Watch.
  2. Tap Safety & emergency and then Safety signal.
  3. Sign in to Fitbit Premium with an existing Fitbit account or sign up for a Fitbit Premium subscription if you don't already have one. Pixel Watch 2 users must move Fitbit to a Google Account to proceed.
  4. Safety Signal will activate and give you your watch number to share with your contacts so they don't miss your call. Your watch number is always available in Safety & emergency and then Safety signal.

Note: The eSIM connectivity may take up to 24 hours to activate.

How to use Safety Signal

Safety Signal is activated automatically after set up. You'll know that Safety Signal is working when the Safety Signal Indicator and a Ready to use notification appears on your Watch face when you walk away from your phone.

Note: The Safety Signal Indicator may take up to 15 minutes to appear on your Watch screen.

Find your Safety Signal phone number

This phone number is assigned to you to enable Personal Safety features when your phone is not with you. It cannot be transferred to another carrier and will be reset if you erase your eSIM.

  1. On your phone, open the Google Pixel Watch app Google Pixel Watch.
  2. Tap Safety & emergency and then Safety signal. You should find your number listed here.

Why does my number appear as an international number (UK and Germany only)?

This is intended and does not indicate an error. You'll still be able to make calls and receive calls from your emergency contacts. Your emergency contacts may be subject to charges based on their own carrier plan.

Can I use my personal mobile phone number for Safety Signal?

No, you can not twin your personal phone with your watch while using Safety Signal. To twin your phone number, please sign up for LTE connectivity through your phone's carrier. Watch numbers may not be ported out for use outside of Safety Signal.
