Why we ask you to verify your identity

We might need to verify your identity based on your Google Pay activity.

Reasons you might need to verify

  • We noticed suspicious activity.
  • We must verify your account information.
  • You want to unlock more features in Google Pay.

How we use your information

Google uses this information to verify your identity, and to protect you and us from fraud and abuse. We store this data securely in your Google Account. We may, with your consent, use or share this information to help you register for other services you request. Identity verification benefits

After you verify your identity and have access to Google Pay balance, you can take advantage of extra functionalities: 

  • Use money in your Google Pay balance to send money to friends and family instantly.
  • Use your money in Google Pay to make purchases for Google products such as purchases on Play and YouTube.
  • Add money to your Google Pay balance that can be used for future purchases or sends.
  • Unlock higher transaction limits.
  1. Open the Google Pay app .
    • If you're not already signed in to your account, sign in.
  2. At the bottom, tap Insights .
  3. Tap Money in Google Pay .
  4. Tap Complete Verification.
  5. Confirm your personal info:
    • Enter your info manually including name, address, date of birth, and Social Security number (SSN).
    • In participating states, you can use your Google Wallet ID to verify your info. For security purposes, you must manually enter your SSN. Add your US Driver's License or State ID.
  6. At the bottom, tap Confirm.
Tip: We may ask for other documents, like a selfie.

Information we may ask for

We may ask for information like:

  • Your full name
  • Your address
  • Your date of birth
  • Your Social Security number
  • Your selfie

You might also need to provide us with document images such as:

  • US state-issued driver’s license
  • Other government-issued ID:
    • State ID
    • US passport or passport card
    • Green card
  • Proof of address:
    • Utility or phone bill dated within 60 days
    • Bank statement dated within 60 days
    • Lease or mortgage agreement
  • Social Security card

Make sure any image or document you upload:

  • Uses the same first and last name on your Google Payments profile.
  • Matches the existing address on your Google Payments profile.
  • For proof of address, isn’t older than 90 days.
  • For an identification card, doesn’t expire within 30 days.
  • Is clearly readable.
  • Is an image of a document and not anything else.
  • Shows the full document with all 4 corners.
  • Is in color and not black and white.
  • Doesn’t have blur, glare, or dim lighting.
  • Isn’t covered in any way or blocked by your finger.
