Additional things to know:

  • If you're replacing a Nest Wifi or Google Wifi network with Nest Wifi Pro routers, follow Replace existing Nest Wifi or Google Wifi with Nest Wifi Pro to make sure all your settings are transferred correctly.
  • To keep all your home devices connected, we suggest reusing the same network name (SSID) and password as your old router.
  • Nest Wifi Pro (Wi-Fi 6E) can't be combined with Nest Wifi routers or points or Google Wifi points (Wi-Fi 5) in a mesh network.
  • The Nest Wifi point can only be used as a wireless point in your mesh network to extend coverage. It can’t be used as a router to set up your network. Set up a Nest Wifi router or Google Wifi point before adding any Nest Wifi points.
  • It's strongly recommended you purchase your Wifi device(s) from the country where you'll be using it. Since wireless regulations vary by country, you might experience compatibility issues if you move your Wifi device(s) to a different country, and Google will be unable to offer support. If you're setting up a mesh network, it's recommended you purchase all of your Wifi devices in the same country.

Set up your Wi-Fi network

Find your Wifi device model, then follow the steps to set up your Wi-Fi network:

Set up your Nest Wifi Pro, Nest Wifi, or Google Wifi network

  1.  Choose a location for your Wifi device.
    • Your router will need to be connected to a working modem that’s connected to the internet.
    • For the strongest signal, place your Wifi device at eye level, in plain view, like on a shelf or TV stand.

  3. Plug your Wifi router into a wall outlet.

If your Wifi device doesn't show a slow pulsing blue or white light, perform a factory reset.
  1. On your phone or tablet, open the Google Home app .
  2. Tap Devices Add Google Nest or partner device Google Nest or partner device.
  3. The app will identify the Wifi device you’ve to set up or provide a list of available devices to select from. If your device isn’t listed, refer to Google Home app can't find Wifi devices for help.
  4. Give your Wi-Fi network a name and secure password. To keep all your home devices connected, we suggest reusing the same network name (SSID) and password as your old router.
  5. Continue through the Home app  to complete setup. Your network will be created. This might take a few minutes.
  6. To add another Wifi device to your network, tap Yes in the app to continue or come back to this article and follow the steps to add mesh points to your network at a later time.

Add mesh points to your network

You can add additional Wifi devices as points to the network you've created to expand your home’s Wi-Fi coverage. Wifi devices that are added, including the Nest Wifi Pro and Nest Wifi routers, are considered “points” in the mesh network.

If the Wifi device you want to set up has previously been set up, perform a factory reset for that device before you add it to a network.

Check if your Wifi routers or points are compatible with your router

What Wifi device(s) do I have?

Nest Wifi Pro (Wi-Fi 6)

Nest Wifi Pro routers can only be combined with other Nest Wifi Pro routers.

Nest Wifi and Google Wifi (Wi-Fi 5)

Any of the following can be used as additional points for your Nest Wifi or Google Wifi network:
  • Nest Wifi router

  • Nest Wifi point
  • Google Wifi

Nest Wifi Pro can’t be added to this network. If you want to use Nest Wifi Pro, you’ll need to replace your network with only Nest Wifi Pro routers.

Add points

To add additional points to your network, repeat the setup steps above using the Home app . Your remaining Wifi devices don't need to be wired with Ethernet cables. However, they should be placed no more than one to 2 rooms away from another Wifi device. Learn more about where to place your Wifi devices.

Note: If you have an iOS device, to be able to use Thread, make sure to grant Google Home app permission to access your network.

If you’re experiencing problems during setup, make sure to:

  • Check that all Wifi devices are plugged in and connected to the same Wi-Fi network
