Serving status (previously family status): Definition

A status given to all ads to indicate what audiences the ad and website are appropriate for. Ads that are 'strongly restricted' and 'moderately restricted' have different restrictions around when and where they can appear.

Whenever you create or edit an ad, Google reviews the ad to make sure that it complies with our advertising policies. When your ad is reviewed, it will be given a serving status depending on the content of your ad and website.

The two serving statuses are strongly restricted and moderately restricted. If an ad has not been given a serving status, it means that the content is allowed as per the policy. Bear in mind that serving restrictions might still apply as per local legal requirements.

The serving status given to your ad affects where your ad can show, including in which countries it can appear. For example, strongly restricted ads aren't shown at all in certain countries and, where they are shown, are limited to searches that are considered 'sexual' in nature. Find your ad's approval status by looking at the 'Status' column in the 'Ads' tab of your 'Campaigns' page. Ads that can serve to all audiences will be shown as Approved, while other serving statuses have the more specific labels Approved (strongly restricted) and Approved (moderately restricted).
